Gautam Gambhir has been hogging all the limelight of late. First he was not picked for the Indian Test team to face New Zealand in the three Test matches despite putting up some consistent performances in the domestic circuit. His emotional post on the social media after the snub only charged up his fans and further kept him in the headlines. A magical stroke of luck, however, worked in his favour when in-form opener KL Rahul suffered an injury and got ruled out of the second Test at Kolkata that begins on Friday, September 30. This opened the door for Gambhir, as he was drafted in Rahul’s place.

While it is yet not clear that whether he will get to play ahead of Shikhar Dhawan, another specialist opener in the squad, the cricket fans are busy discussing another interesting scenario. Gambhir’s selection to the squad brings him, for the first time, in a situation where he plays under Virat Kohli. Yes, the same Kohli with whom Gambhir does not share best of the equations. Remember Indian Premier League (IPL) battle royale between the two? Not once, but twice these two cricketers from Delhi have come to loggerheads in teh T20 extravaganza.

Both are known for their short temper and hence it became interesting, the prospect of these two coming together once again that is. Fans wanted to know is there still bad blood between the two? Will Kohli play Gambhir in the XI or pick Dhawan ahead of him? Will the two cricketing icons from Delhi be cordial to each other? The ones who genuinely wanted this to happen are happy now. The rest, are not, because a short video shared by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Twitter handle on the eve of the second Test shows the two player sharing a good laugh in each other’s company. Watch it here:

While some would have expected the tempers to flare, the scenes at Eden Gardens in Kolkata during India’s practice session before the second Test were completely different. Both Kohli and Gambhir, along with wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, were seen sharing a laugh and practicing together during in the net session on Thursday morning. The video showed the three of them chatting and sharing jokes with each other.

The video may not suggest that Gambhir, who is back in the Indian team after a gap of two years, will start in the final XI when the second Test goes underway from Friday, but it definitely hints that things between these two cricketing heavyweights are completely fine. It augurs well for Indian cricket, for a happy and united bunch can only become an invincible side.

India will take on New Zealand in the second Test with the aim of getting an unassailable lead of 2-0 and winning the series. That will also put them on the No. 1 spot in ICC Test Rankings, ahead of current No. 1 side Pakistan. And whether or not Kohli plays Gambhir in the XI, will unfold on Friday morning.
