VIDEO: When Sania Mirza smacked Rajdeep Sardesai’s “settle down” question for a six

Those wondering what this post has to do in a cricket website, well, both these luminaries have cricket connections. While Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, who is related to former Test cricketers Ghulam Ahmed and Asif Iqbal, is the wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, renowned journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is the son of former Indian cricketer Dilip Sardesai and has played First-Class cricket.

Sania, who released her autobiography, was being interviewed by Sardesai on national television. He asked Sania, “Amidst all the celebrity-hood, when is Sania going to settle down? Is it going to be in Dubai? Is it going to be in any other country? What about motherhood, building a family? I don’t see all that in the book. It seems like you don’t want to retire just yet to settle down.” READ MORE: Yuvraj Singh calls Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza “terrible dancers”

Sania kept her calm and hit the question for a six.

“You sound disappointed I’m not choosing motherhood over being number one in the world. But I’ll answer your question anyway, that’s the question I face all the time as a woman, that all women have to face – the first is marriage and then it’s motherhood. Unfortunately, that’s when we’re settled, and no matter how many Wimbledons we win or number ones in the world we become, we don’t become settled. Buteventually it will happen, not right now. And when it does happen I’ll be the first one to tell everybody when I plan to do that,” replied Sania. ALSO READ: Shoaib Malik, Sania Mirza TV commercial that will win your hearts

Sardesai was quick to apologise and Sania accepted it. It was a much-needed wake-up call for the Indian media, whose member dared to question the ranked World No. 1 in doubles like that.
