The FIFA World Cup 2014 begins on June 12. Brazil are the hosts of the 20th edition of football’s greatest showpiece event on Earth. A total of 32 teams will participate in the FIFA World Cup 2014. The tournament starts on June 12 in Sao Paulo and the final will be played on July 13 at Rio de Janeiro. This is the second time Brazil will host the FIFA World Cup after 1950.
Spain are the defending champions after lifting their first crown in South Africa during the FIFA World Cup 2010. Previous FIFA World Cup winners apart from Brazil and Spain are, Uruguay, Italy, Germany, England, Argentina and France. All of them have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2014.
There will be eight groups [Group A to Group H] with four teams each. All the teams will play three matches each in the group stage. A win is worth three points, while a draw will gain one point and a loss means no points will be added. The top two teams will qualify for the Round of 16s. From there the winners will progress to the quarter-finals, then the semi-finals and the last two victorious teams will play in the final.
