Switzerland qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2014 to make it to the main football event three times in-a-row. This is a good phase for the national team as from 1970 to 1990, they did not qualify. From 1934 to 1954, Switzerland qualified four times on the trot. They created an unwanted record in the FIFA World Cup 2006 when they crashed out from the Round of 16s. They had not conceded a single goal in the tournament, but still managed to get knocked out via a penalty shootout.
They are drawn in Group E with Ecuador, Honduras and France. Switzerland stunned the world when they defeated Spain in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. But while Spain went onto win the tournament, Switzerland could not even make it out of the group stages. They would bee hoping for a slid performance in Brazil this time around.
