Uruguay made heavy weather of their qualifying campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. They finished a brilliant fourth in the previous edition in 2010, but only managed to finish in the intercontinental play-off spot. There they thrashed Jordan 5-0 in a two-legged tie. They have fantastic history when the FIFA World Cup has been held in Brazil. The last time it was held by Brazil in 1050, Uruguay beat the hosts in the final match to lift their second FIFA World Cup crown.
They won the inaugural FIFA World Cup title in 1930 on home soil. Uruguay are the current Copa America champions after winning the South American title in 2011. They have world-class forwards in Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani. Uruguay have been drawn in Group D with England, Italy and Costa Rica.
