(Defending champions West Indies take on hosts, Bangladesh at Dhaka in ICC World T20 2014. Catch Live Cricket Score and all latest updates on this blog).
This is Bharath Ramaraj signing off. Today’s game was all about Dwayne Smith’s blitzkrieg. Bangladesh flattered to deceive and lost their way.
Well that is it as Gazi’s stumps is shattered by Russell. West Indies thrash Bangladesh by 73 runs in the end.
OUT! S Gazi 11(20)
Now that was one of the wildest slogs one can ever get to see from Mortaza as it goes for a boundary of an outside edge. In fact it seemed like he was wielding an axe and not a willow. Well, undoubtedly, Samuels has gone to Collins’s school of catching as he drops another one. Finally though, Mortaza gets out for 19 caught by Bravo.
OUT! Mortaza 19(17)
One more slog that rockets to the boundary and Bangladesh look like may eventually reach the score of 100. You feel for the Bangladeshi supporters who make a beeline entry into the stadium to see their heroes play.
Mortaza finally tries one slog there and gets a boundary. Bangladesh just playing for pride here.
Narine continues to turn it a mile to beat hapless Bangladeshi tail-enders. It is better for tail-enders to slog a few agricultural hoicks against him. A good old Courtney Walsh slog can help!
What can Bangladesh take from this game? It is time for them to push the envelope in terms of performance. As I say Rahman loses his stumps. It has been an absolute shambles.
OUT! Rahman 9(13)
Bangladesh just looking to play out 20 overs now.
This has turned into a no contest. Athar Ali Khan’s sombre voice in the commentary box tells it all.
The Windies are closing in on a huge win here. They need that to boost their sagging spirits.
What athleticism there shown by Bravo. A splendid catch to dismiss Rahim. The procession continues as Mahmudullah too falls and the score reads 59 for the loss of seven wickets. Can Bangladesh even make 100?
OUT! M Haque 16(19)
The left-handed Mominul tries a wild swing across the line and gets lucky with a top edge for a boundary. He follows it up with a cheeky little scoop. He survivies a chance too as Samuels drops a sitter at third man. Now he must have got some coaching lessons from Pedro Collins on how to drop catches.
Sunil Narine already into the attack. The dew problem may affect him though.
Bangladesh need someone to do a houndini act to take them to a victory here. It seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them! Skipper Rahim though is trying to make a good fist of it.
Finally Rahim connects one to send it for a towering six. Bangladesh certainly needed that.
Bangladesh just look out of their depth at present. There doesn’t seem to be anyway out to come out of this narrow trench for the Tigers.
Shakib Al Hasan and Anamul Haque get out in the same over to Santokie. Bangladesh are trying to play too much on the up here.
Iqbal gets out caught by Bravo. Now that is a huge blow for Bangladesh, as they needed their main man to fire on all cylinders.
OUT! Tamim 5(10)
Now Tamim Iqbal is on fire too. He dances down the wicket to smash Santokie for a sumptuous boundary.
Anamul Haque is in that rarefied zone straightaway as he thwacks Badree for nine runs in the first over.
Samuels gets out caught in the cover. Andre Russell too follows him.West Indies have somehow managed to get to a decent score though. Suddenly, Tamim Iqbal with a superman-like takes a stunning catch off Bravo. Athar Ali Khan is excited in the commentary box! Another wicket goes as Ramdin gets run out off the last ball, as they finish their innings at 171 for the loss of seven wickets.
OUT! M Samuels 48(48)
Tamim Iqbal takes a brilliant catch near the boundary line at long off to send Gayle packing back to the pavilion. Bangladesh have bowled well here. Bangladesh have dropped Sammy twice in two deliveries. Nothing is going well for them.
OUT! C Gayle 48(48)
Gayle is trying to find the boundary boards but still can’t find the timing. He finally sends it rocketing towards the boundary boards for a boundary. His strike rate is still just 100.
Gayle finally connects a few to collect 20 runs of over No 17. West Indies needed that big over.
Gayle has played a very subdued knock. Time for him to open up and go for the jugular.
West Indies need to get a move on as the dew factor will come into play when they bowl.
C Gayle continues to play in a strange fashion by taking singles. Will he ever get going?
Simmons dances down the wicket too early and Shakib deliberately bowls a wide to send him back to the pavilion stumped.
OUT! L Simmons 0(0)
Bangladesh in tatters. Terrible misfields and some bad bowling too. Smith shows the worth of modern day bats by smashing a six that didn’t even connect. Finally though, Smith is out.
OUT! D Smith 72(43)
Bangladesh bowling some poor stuff here. Smith makes them pay for it with another bazooka six that goes deep into the orbit.
It is more like Smith storm rather than Gayle storm at present. He is surely in excellent touch.
Mortaza appeals for an lbw but it is crystal clear that there was an inside edge of Smith’s willow.
Gazi bowls a fine over before the Jamaican marauder Gayle clears the boundary boards with ease.
West Indies continue to play cautiously. Bangladesh have bowled well till now though their fielding has been slightly below par.
West Indies need the good old Gayle. The Jamaica marauder who with his bazooka bat sends the ball deep into orbit. At present he is batting in first gear.
Smith is on the attack with some fine sweep shots off the bowling of off-spinner, Gazi. West Indies needed that over.
Smith plays his favourite chip shot over mid-on. He loves to clamber everything through the on-side doesn’t he?
Al Amin to open the bowling with Mortaza. He is slanting everything into the Smith and getting a wee bit of swing as well.
Mashrafe Martaza, the experienced seamer to open the bowling for Bangladesh. He finds some swing but isn’t able to control it and gives away extras. Smith thumps Martaza for a boundary through mid-wicket region to end the first over.
Toss: Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim wins toss and elects to bowl. Darren Sammy is the captain of West Indies.
Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of Match No 20 between Bangladesh and the West Indies from Group 2 at Dhaka. I am Bharath Ramaraj and i will be bringing the live updates of this match. Both West Indies and Bangladesh are coming into this clash on the back of a defeat — a demoralising one in its own way.
The defending champions Windies were tamed by the Indian spinners and the hosts were humbled by Hong Kong. In the clash at Dhaka in Tuesday evening, West Indies and Bangladesh will be overly dependent on the batsmen with more emphasis on chasing due to the possible dew factor.
