Manhas starts the last over with a four for Chennai. They would love a big over here to get into a very strong position. Shami gets his length better this time. Only a single from the 2nd ball. 3rd ball, Manhas makes room and gets three wide of long-off. Superb last over Mohammed Shami here.
Oh a bonus wicket here. Ashwin goes for an impossible single and is run out. Manhas ends the innings with another boundary. Chennai end with 177 for 7 on board. Some superb hitting by Raina and Dhoni makes it possible.
OUT! R Ashwin 1(1)

Unadkat to bowl the 19th now. How less can he go for? Not too less, I guess. MSD has clobbered the second ball for four over the bowler’s head. Almost took Unadkat’s head along with the ball.
But the young bowler gets his revenge. The Chennai captain goes for a slog pull, but is caught at square-leg by Mayank Agarwal. Jadeja hits out and its SIX! And absolute mayhem for Chennai here. Jadeja too is out in this over.
OUT! MS Dhoni 32(15), R Jadeja 7(3)

Shami back into the attack now. And is greeted by the most sweet sounding SIX by du Plessis. Shami starts with the short ball and du Plessis obliges. Goes for another one. But holes out to Vijay at long-on this time. So Shami gets the breakthrough.
#Sir Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in. Yes, that’s what the announcer in the stadium calls him. But no change in plans for Dhoni. Nonchalantly dispatches one for SIX over extra cover. Brilliant hitting this. Casual fielding again allows Dhoni to sneak in another couple.
OUT! du Plessis 24(17)

Unadkat comes back for his third over. It will be him and Shami for Delhi in the death overs. Meanwhile, Chennai need to get some big hits. With MSD, you never know when he opens up. But at times, in the past, he has left it for too late. If Chennai don’t reach the 160-mark, they will be disappointed.
But Delhi’s fielding has been ultra-sloppy tonight. Overthrows galore. And they are hurt by that last overthrow. Huge SIX by MSD. And then a four.

Nadeem starts his third over now. How many can CSK get in the last five? With MSD in.
Superb over by Nadeem. Just 8 off it.

Neesham’s rather poor day continues. du Plessis makes room and smashes a glorious cover drive for four to start the 15th over. But he finally gets something to cheer about. Gets the big wicket of Surehs Raina. Raina goes for the big six, but is holed out at long-on. Vijay doesn’t spill that. MS Dhoni is the new man in now.
OUT! S Raina 56(41)

Duminy in for his last over now. Can he finish off well what has been a stupendous bowling performance so far? The hundred has come up for CSK now.
Yes he can. Finishes with figures of 4-0-26-0. And it’s another timeout now.

Neesham starts his third over now. Raina has been unapologetic towards him so far. But his first delivery to du Plessis is a beauty. Shaped and moved away from the South African.
Raina brings up his fifty. Superb innings so far. His 19th in IPL.

Raina is getting into some serious hitting mood now. Murali Vijay’s first over starts with consecutive boundaries. Then a dot ball. And then Raina gently sweeps the third man for four again. This bowling change has definitely not worked for Delhi.
Serious momentum shift for Chennai here.

Nadeem comes for his second over now. And Raina likes the left-arm spinner. Greets him with a long SIX over the long-on. The first SIX of the night. And follows that with a cute sweep for a couple. Raina is shifting gears now.
OUT! Nadeem gets the wicket of Dwayne Smith. Castles him between bat and pad.
OUT! D Smith 29(28)

Duminy into his third over now. He has done a superb job so far. What an IPL 7 he is having. Has been hit for just a single boundary so far.
Him bowling well has allowed Karthik to save Nadeem in the absence of Coulter-Nile’s services.

Neesham gets another over in this spell. He will hope for a better one.But Smith definitely doesn’t want that. He pulls one for four over the vacant square-leg region. Neesham seems very under confident. One boundary has disturbed his line again. He has been the easiest bowler to hit so far for the Chennai batsmen.
Meanwhile, CSK are not really middling much and nor are they scoring much.

Guess who’s getting ready to hit a few long ones tonight?

Duminy comes back for his second over now. All the Delhi bowlers are getting one bursts here. Except for Shami and Unadkat.
It’s turning out to be a superb over from the South African. He has conceded just 2 runs off the first four balls. And ends conceding just 4.

James Neesham into the attack now. His performance with the ball will be crucial to Delhi’s fortunes. And he doesn’t start too promisingly. Raina greets him with a trademark inside out loft over extra cover for four. And then Smith edges one which fetches another couple.
He yields 9 off his first over.

Unadkat comes to bowl his second over now. And the speed-o-meter just showed that Shami had clocked speeds of close to 148kmph in his last over. That is fast!
Meanwhile, Unadkat is happy to use his slower ones. CSK have not really blasted through this powerplay. They have failed to time the ball properly so far.

Shami in for his second over now. Starts with a wonderful yorker to Smith, who scoops it safely past the bowler for a single. Delivers another yorker wide outside off-stump to Raina. Raina tries to guide it down to the thirdman fence, but fails to connect.
Coulter-Nile has not yet returned to the field. That will be worrying Dinesh Karthik on the back of his mind. Coulter-Nile was very impressive in the last match against KKR.

Jaydev Unadkat into the attack and gets the big wicket of Brendon McCullum. The first ball — McCullum hands a simple catch to JP Duminy at short extra cover who drops it. The next ball, McCullum tries a mad heave, and edges a simple catch to Wayne Parnell at second slip.
Suresh Raina is the new man in now.
OUT! B McCullum 9(10)

More spin for Delhi up front. Shahbaz Nadeem to bowl the third over now. And he gets an inside edge from McCullum first up. McCullum gets his first boundary of the day on the foruth ball of the over. Goes over mid-off.
From what it looks like so far, it seems Smith will be the aggressor early on in the innings here, while McCullum seems happy to just rotate the strike.

Mohammed Shami to share the new ball alongside Duminy. And Dwayne Smith likes the extra pace. Greets Shami with a dismissive short arm jab for four near square-leg. A better comeback by Shami on the second ball. Hit him on the back leg in front of the stumps. In fact, that was OUT! Smith survives.
Shami is getting some movement with the new ball. And now, Smith returns the favour by caressing one through the covers. 10 from that over.

Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith open the batting for Chennai. They destroyed KXIP in their last outing, can they do the same against Delhi tonight?
And Delhi open the bowling with spin up first. JP Duminy. And he starts off with a wide. Oh, Nathan Coulter-Nile is limping off after making a save. This could hurt Delhi. McCullum is not yet finding the desired gaps.

Hello and welcome to the live updates of the 8th match of IPL 2014 today at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi. IPL’s best team, Chennai Super Kings face off against Delhi Daredevils. I am Abhishek Mukherjee and I will give you live updates of what promises to be a riveting encounter.

Chennai will be eager to get monkey off their back, and register their first win of the tournament. Delhi, on the other hand, will be riding high on confidence after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match, thanks to JP Duminy‘s heroics with the bat. His bowlers would like to dump that disastrous performance in the past, and come out in their best colours against Delhi.

It is still early days in the seventh edition of the IPL, and both teams will be eager to get as many points as possible.
