Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the Quadrangular A-Team One-Day Series. This is match 9 and India will take on the National Performance Squad (NPS) at Mackay.
Live Updates, NPS 190/6, Batting: David Moody 2, Clint Hinchliffe 35: So NPS looking to take the score past 200. India has earlier scored over 300 in the series and a target of around 200 should be easy for the team, looking at the long and potent batting line-up they have. Varun Aaron has done a great job so far, while the rest of the bowlers also joined hands to restrict the India A below par. Hinchliffe, meanwhile, plays a crucial innings to add some runs to the board towards the end of the innings.
Live Updates, NPS 187/6, Batting: David Moody 0, Clint Hinchliffe 34: NPS fail to build any big partnership so far and this leads to a very ordinary total. Bowlers rejoice as everyone is getting at least a wicket. Varun Aaron remained the most effective to bag wickets, the economy could have been better though. Hinchcliffe hist him for 3 fours in an over.
OUT! Arjun Nair c Sanju Samson(wk) b Varun Aaron 7 (11)
OUT! Tom O’Donnell lbw b Akshar Patel 3 (20)
Live Updates, NPS 149/4, Batting: Arjun Nair 1, Clint Hinchliffe 7: Gone! Short’s innings remained as Short as to add only 30 runs to the team score. NPS have batted for 37 overs now, have lost four crucial wickets and are yet to get to 150. This is not something they wanted. Varun Aaron does it for the team while Samson executes a perfect wicketkeeper’s catch!
OUT! Mathew Short c Sanju Samson (wk) b Varun Aaron 30 (60)
Live Updates, NPS 128/3, Batting: Mathew Short 20: Bowled him! This must be the turning point of the innings as NPS lose their set batsman Sam Harper. With 27 overs of the innings played, it will be tough for NPS to make comeback from here. Mathew Short will have to stay longer at the crease now. Shreyas Iyer does well for a part-time option, getting the set man out for his team.
OUT! Sam Harper b Shreyas Iyer 72 (80)
Live Updates, NPS 101/2, Batting: Sam Harper 57, Mathew Short 8: So, hundred up for NPS in 22 overs. The current RPO is not much impressive but more important for the batting side now is to save their wickets which they are losing frequently. Runs on the board are definitely needed looking at the long batting that India A possess but NPS must play carefully. Meanwhile, Harper plays like a lone soldier, gets his 50.
Live Updates, NPS 76/2, Batting: Sam Harper 40, Mathew Short 0: And yet another wicket for India A. Renshaw goes for 31 and the partnership that stablised NPS for sometime has been broken now. Too early in the match to lose two wickets for the NPS.
OUT! Matt Renshaw lbw b Jayant Yadav 31 (52)
Live Updates, NPS 45/1, Batting: Sam Harper 26, Matt Renshaw 15 : NPS looking to build a partnership here. Runs are coming frequently. NPS close to their 50 and have done well after losing an early wicket so far. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya gave away 9 runs in his first over today.
Live Updates, NPS 21/1, Batting: Sam Harper 7, Matt Renshaw 10: A great start for India A. After a maiden over from Dhawal Kulkarni to start with, Varun Aaron bags a wicket off his first ball as Jewel departs for a duck. NPS are one down already and need not lose more.
OUT! Caleb Paul Jewell c Patel b Aaron 0 (1)
Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the Quadrangular A-Team One-Day Series. This is match 9 and India will take on the National Performance Squad (NPS) at Mackay. India A are currently at the top of the table winning two of their three matches while the other was abandoned due to rain. Skipper Manish Pandey has done very well, setting example by his performance while the entire team also contributed to take their team to victory. On the other hand, NPS has lost the only match they played to India A and thus will be in pressure facing them straight in the second match, while India A will have the advantage and confidence due to their consistent performance in the series so far.
What makes India A a very strong contender is their long batting line-up. The batting goes down till No. 8, given the fact that the team consists of some quality all-rounders who have earlier turned things around for their sides. The batting order is balanced, starting from openers to the middle and lower-middle-order.
NPS’ batting performance in their previous game in the series remained unbalanced. The team lost their first wicket quickly, but came back with a competitive performance as Hilton Cartwright and Sam Heazlett built up a partnership of over 100 runs. But as the partnership was broken, the team failed to follow that performance up. It was the only big partnership of their innings, which came to an end with 318 runs on the board, handing India A an 86-run victory. The batting line-up needs to be consistent throughout.
Squads:
National Performance Squad: Hilton Cartwright, Caleb Paul Jewell, Sam Heazlett, Matthew Short (c), Sam Harper (wk), Clint Hinchliffe, Michael Neser, David Moody, Kyle Gardiner, Sam Grimwade, David Grant, Josh Inglis, Arjun Nair, Tom O’Donnell, Matt Renshaw, Mitchell Swepson
