Shami smashes a boundary off a wide delivery from Cook for a four through point. That is it! That is a draw and they aren’t going to play the mandatory overs. What a game it has been! Momentum has swung from one side to another. The tailenders have done well with the bat and now it all settles for a draw. Both teams head to Lord’s with all square.
Would you believe it! Alastair Cook has a Test wicket! he puts Matt Prior back and comes in to bowl medium pace. He also impersonates Bob Willis on one occasion. And then, he bowls one down the leg-side, which takes a tickle off Ishant’s bat. That is out.
OUT! Ishant 13(55)
And now England are just passing time. Alastair Cook brings himself on and bowls gentle gentle off-spin. There is a lot of air and not much turn. After him, Gary Ballance comes on to bowl his leg-spin. Something to keep the crowd interesting as they appeal with the team at the hint of every chance.
Bhuvneshwar is now into his 60s. He pulls a short one from Ali for a four over mid-wicket. This Test is meandering towards a draw and perhaps in some time, they could call it as the two captains may get together.
Bhuvneshwar is in full flow. He hits an off-drive off Moeen and that goes for a four. And then he farms strike moving to 57. It is all too easy for him as these spinners are not troubling him at all.
Fifty in both inns of a Test at number 9 (or lower): P Siddle Aus v Ind Delhi 2013, and B Kumar.
Another half-century by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. he smashes Root over mid-wicket and then goes through the off-side, bagging two fours. And then, he takes the single to get to his half century. What a game he has had!
Some hitting by the two batsmen on the odd occasion. Bhuvneshwar has now moved into the 40s and is continuing to look solid.
India resume after lunch. Why not declare and hand the dice to England?
That is tea. This game is now heading towards a draw. Ishant and Bhuvneshwar have no pressure on them and have played this out well. There was an opportunity off Joe Root though, but it was not take,n.
Moeen Ali has a big wicket! Stuart Binny is gone! Ali gets him out for 78 as he is trapped leg-before.
OUT! Binny 78(114)
The Test match is very much safe now from India’s perspective. They are now just playing on. Perhaps, Stuart Binny now has his eye on the ton. Bhuvneshwar is also batting very well and that just gives more confidence to the lower order.
The runs are flowing for India now. Both Stuart Binny and Bhuvneshwar have scored the runs by finding a few boundaries. They have now put up more than 50 and this has been a very matured partnership. When Moeen comes on, Binny comes down the ground and lofts him for a four over cover.
Well played Stuart Binny,to have 4 non productive days in a Test and play well in a crucial passage of play on the 5th shows character
Stuart Binny has his first Test half century. He has now hit a few boundaries and takes the important singles to get to the 50. Good innings by Binny and that has helped India tremendously.
India are going very smoothly. Bhuvneshwar has also got off the mark and when the ball was on his pads, he works it away for a four. This has been a decent performance so far by the pair while they have been together. They have to bat some time to make sure India get into the safe zone.
Bhuvneshwar and Binny would now try to extend this fight. They have to take India to a safe zone, from where they cannot lose the game. Binny gets an edge from Anderson and that has gone for a four. He continues to be assured in his strokeplay.
england keeping interest alive. can india last another ten overs?
Jadeja is gone. He pokes at one from Anderson and it takes a thin edge. Matt Prior takes the catch. Jadeja’s hard working charge has come to an end there. He struggled and then got into his groove and now he is gone. Where will this Test match head now?
OUT! Jadeja 31(98)
and now Bhuvi got 5 wickets, all three of us play for same first class team that’s Uttar Pradesh.
The new ball has been taken by England and this should be a testing phase for the two batsmen. Binny solidly defends a few and then he works one to third-man for a single. Jadeja then gets one that is outside the off-stump and he times that beautifully for a four. His strike-rate has certainly picked up here.
Jadeja attacks Moeen as he pitches it short. jadeja rocks back and pulls it over mid wicket for a four. Binny and Jadeja are now fairly settled. Jadeja had a very tough time earlier, but seems to be in much better now as he moves into the 20s.
Moeen Ali starts after lunch and off the fourth ball, Binny takes a single. Normally, we have seen many wickets fall in the afternoon session at Trent Bridge, but today Indians would hope it is a different case.
There was an appeal for leg-before as Moeen Ali hit Jadeja’s pads. However, it hit him way outside the line of the stumps and was missing anyways. Plunkett comes in and bowls it short, and Binny pulls it for a four. He has been very positive. Jadeja then pulls a short one from Plunkett and that has gone for a four. Jadeja then pulls another short one for a four.
Binny is playing his shots. Stokes pitches it on a length and Binny creams it through the cover region off the backfoot and that has gone for a four. He then pulls one for a four. This approach is refreshing for the Indians and would help them come out of this muddle. Meanwhile, even as Ali continues, Jadeja is still patient. Remember, these are the most number of deliveries he has faced in a Test innings.
Moeen Ali is now into the bowling attack. Perhaps Jadeja may feel a lot more comfortable against this spin. Defending would be a lot easier for him. Binny has been more positive and has picked runs whenever he has go the opportunity. Jadeja has finally moved into the double figures.
For the first time Jadeja has faced 50 balls in Test cricket. #ENGvIND
Stuart Binny gets some confidence by picking a few runs. When Liam Plunkett overpitched, he drove it gracefully through cover for a four. That was an assured shot and one that bloods in confidence. He is also defending well. Meanwhile, Jadeja’s battle with the seamers continues. After that lone boundary, he has been unable to work it around and get a single or two. And finally, Jadeja gets a couple of runs.
18 – Ravindra Jadeja’s play and miss percentage of 18% in this Test is the highest of any top seven batsman. Wafted. #EngvInd
There was a chance of a run-out, but Jadeja is home. Binny plays through the off-side and calls for two. However, Ben Stokes slipped a touch in the deep while trying to pick it up. Jadeja called for the third and ran across. The ball came in and Prior took the bails off, but Jadeja had made it. Nervous times for India.
Wow the Indian batsmen this morning going down quicker than Arjen Robben in the penalty area #EngvInd#Cricket
Jadeja finally gets off the mark! Jadeja charges to Anderson again and smashes him down the ground for a four. It has taken him 38 balls to get off the mark. Stuart Binny has walked out meanwhile and got going with a couple of singles. What a chance for these two to do something and perhaps save the game for India.
200 runs for last wicket is biting us! As Rahul Dravid mentioned! Most of the time Bowlers win you test matches abroad!
Dhoni is gone! Big wicket for England. Liam Plunkett comes in for a new spell and strikes immediately. The ball castles Dhoni as it is full and Dhoni doesn’t move his feet. Disaster for India and celebrations for England!
OUT! Dhoni 11(30)
An intriguing passage of play. Jadeja comes on strike and is tested by the English seamers. Cook has his men prowling around the bat and that is keeping him in his own zone. Jadeja is now leaving the ball and defending. Yet to get off the mark though. He has played over 30 balls and yet to get his first runs. Dhoni does get those singles and then leaves it to Jadeja, who has remarkably managed to keep his patience.
For a batsman who’s used his feet to fast bowlers a few times…it’s rather baffling to note that Jadeja is still on 0 after 20 balls.
Cook has set a very interesting field for Jadeja. The second slip is standing very close as a couple of edges haven’t carried to him. Meanwhile, Jadeja bizarrely continues to charge at times. He is yet to get off the mark ad that is perhaps something that is playing on his mind.
Cook might want to send the picture of his slip cordon to Warne…very innovative with Bell standing so close with the helmet on! #thinking
Both batsmen have now had a few nervous moments. Jadeja charged at one down the ground and missed it. Numerous deliveries have gone past the bat and there have been a lot of oohs and aahs from behind the stumps. Broad is now coming in with the keeper standing up. Jadeja has not opened his account yet. And Cook has dropped Dhoni! He edges one and Cook is at slip and he has grassed it. Prior is up to the stumps remember!
Rahane takes a single off the first ball he faces from Broad. Kohli comes on strike and plays one well. But, the next ball is swinging in and hits Kohli in front. He is now dismissed. Big wicket for England. They see the back of Virat Kohli.
OUT! Kohli 8(29)
A maiden to begin with from Anderson. With the clouds around, Anderson starts off and Virat Kohli plays him out quite calmly.
Hello, Welcome to the final day of the first Test. India ended Day Four on 167 for three with a lead of 128 runs against England in the first Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday. It was a day when records tumbled for the last wicket stand as James Anderson (81) and Joe Root piled on a record 198-run partnership to take England to 496 and take a 39-run lead. India lost two quick wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara (55) and Murali Vijay (52) late in the day but still look comfortable to take this match towards a draw.
Earlier in the day, England’s last-wicket pair of Root and Anderson snatched a possible match-winning lead from India. With 105 lead in hand, India were aiming for setting a big target. But the wait got too painful as Anderson was unperturbed even against the short balls while Root smashed to get to his fourth Test. England headed in to lunch unscathed at 485 for nine having shattered many last-wicket records. India finally got their man removing Anderson for 81. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged a five-wicket haul in his first overseas Test while Root was undefeated on 154. Hi I am Nishad Pai Vaidya and I will be bringing you live updates.
