CSK have won it in the last over. It was Dhoni’s six that settled the match for CSK. Unadkat missed it by a fraction and disappeared out of the ground. A fine win engineered by Smith with Dhoni giving finishing touches. On the other hand Delhi continues to flounder.
Raina doing some finishing touches for CSK as he guides one through third man for a boundary. Not even a miracle perhaps can save DD here. Or is there one? Vijay pulls of a screamer on the boundary to send Smith back to the pavilion. Parnell finishes the over with two fine deliveries. Maybe DD can still win it.
OUT! D Smith c Vijay b Parnell 79(51)
Shami trying his best by bowling full and straight. However you still back CSK to win this game with nine wickets in hand. DD can win this game only by taking a few wickets. That six by Smith over mid wicket perhaps has taken the wind out of DD’s sails.
It is now or never for DD as Unadkat comes into bowl. On the other end, CSK seem to be cursing towards a well-earned win. A one good over can still change the course of the game though. On a side note KP seems to be animated on the field.
Raina is playing a blinder for CSK. They look set to win this game. More misery likely for Delhi. Parnell bowls one half way down the track and it disappears into crowd. Maybe he thought he was a combination of Tyson and Shoaib to dig it short. Rain isn’t helping the bowlers to grip the ball either.
Embarrassing bowling from Delhi. Beyond redemption, beyond hope. #IPL
Unadkat into the attack for DD. He bowls a fine delivery but Raina improvises to play it through the vacant third man region for a boundary. A fine yorker to follow it up by Unadkat to Raina. He bowls another fine delivery but unfortunately for him the outside edge goes to the boundary.
Shukla bowls on Smith’s pads and Smith keeps smashing it all over the ground. CSK are ahead by one run now on D/L method. This game is slowly but surely slipping away from DD as Smith reaches his half-century. DD need a wicket here.
Shami into the attack. He digs a few short ones to Raina which was more or less on expected lines. Well rain is coming and one has to wait and see who is ahead on D/L method. Smith ends the over with a six.
McCullum after a slightly scratchy innings gets out to Shukla caught in the deep. Shukla is bleeding to his bones while bowling every delivery. However Raina smashes a boundary to keep the scoreboard ticking for CSK. Here is a batsman who is made for facing medium pacers.
OUT! McCullum c Vijay b Shukla 32(35)
Smith clambers a six off Nadeem but the wily spinner comes back by bowling it slightly wide of the stumps to outfox the batsmen. The bowler has done well after being hit for a towering six here. They need a wicket though to claw their way back into the game.
Shukla continues to bowl with zest and gusto. One has to admire his tenacity. He may not have truckloads of talent but certainly a tenacious cricketer. He has kept DD in the hunt here.
Nadeem bowls a fine arm ball only for Smith to loft it for a six. Other than that Nadeem bowls a fine over. CSK are looking to keep wickets in hand and that is a good strategy in any format. It has to be said though DD bowlers have made a decent comeback here. Maybe KP’s pep talk during the break helped.
Jadhav the youngster almost pulls off a brilliant catch to dismiss McCullum. Karthik then makes a mess behind the stumps as it goes for four byes. A fine over ruined by Shukla ruined there. DD more overs like that to comeback into the game.
Nadeem gets another over. He starts the over with the one that straightens a wee bit off the track. He follows it up with a few more deliveries. This is good stuff from the left-arm orthodox bowler. On the other hand 50 runs up for Chennai.
Parnell back into the attack. DD need a wicket here. Someone has to take up the mantle and bowl a few tight overs at least for them. On this wicket if you keep wickets in hand you can easily chase down the target.
DD continue to bowl all over the place. Shabaz Nadeem too bowls a bad delivery which was waiting for McCullum to help himself for another boundary. Shahbaz needs to bowl good line and length and attack the stumps. They need to settle into at least hitting a decent length here.
Jaydev Unadkat comes into the attack. He bowls a few slower ones half way down the track and duly gets thwacked. Unadkat at that pace has come under the pump. 18 runs of that over from Unadkat.
McCullum with his tremendous looking to play more shots. Shami though is keeping it tight by brining it back into him. No room for McCullum to free his arms whatsoever. Something that McCullum loves to do. For some reason he ends the over by digging it short and gets punished.
The left-armer Wayne Parnell to bowl the second over. B McCullum gets of to a fine start with a boundary off Parnell. It was a slower one that went all wrong for him.
Mohammad Shami into the attack. Their bowlers need to keep it tight during the early overs. Shami is getting a bit of seam movement into the batsman first up.
JP Duminy must be the most chronically mismanaged batsman in the IPL. In 2012, he averaged 81, but was dropped for a few games and batted 5!
The last over is bowled by Mohit Sharma. A fine over till now by Mohit as he is bowling full and straight. Jadhav finally finds middle of the bat to essay s six down the ground. It a flat six from the youngster. He clambers another six of Mohit. Mohit’s lack of pace is perhaps going against him. Dhoni should look at coming up to the stumps.
Hilfy is the bowler bowling the 19th over of the game. What more can Duminy do in this over? He needs to get strike though as Jadhav isn’t able to give back the strike to Duminy. He finally gets one somewhere on the edge of the bat and that lemon cut of Jadhav goes for a a boundary. Unlucky Hilfy there! Duminy ends the over with another four. He is shining like a beacon for DD.
Mohit Sharma bowling with decent variations. Duminy though plays a lap shot around the corner for a boundary. When you watch Duminy you wonder what is acting as a hurdle from him penning his mark in the top echelons of the game. He has every shot in the book and to make it even better he has preternatural hand-eye co-ordination. Now what a shot that was by Duminy?? The timing was as pure as nectar. Another beautiful shot to end the over No 18. This man has heavy dollops of talent.
A fine over that by Jadeja. He is one bowler who is usually parsimonious with the ball in hand. Just believes in sticking to basics of bowling stump to stump and not giving any room to free your arms and play shots.
Can Duminy do some willowy magic here? The track is a batting beauty and for sure. So their best batsman on form has no other choice but to go for his shots. This has been a professional performance by CSK till now as they have taken wickets at regular intervals.
DD losing their way as Vijay now gets out. Now that was bad batting by Vijay as he needed to stay at the crease after the loss of quick wickets. It is all up to JP Duminy now to take the bull by horns and go for the jugular by smashing the opposition ranks all over the park.
OUT! M Vijay c du Plessis b Jadeja 35(30)
Many teams guilty of accommodating lesser players instead of bringing the best out of their stars. Ridiculous that Duminy comes in so late!
The wicket of Karthik may just turn the tables around. It is up to Murali Vijay now to deliver the goods. He has struggled a bit for timing. He is joind by Laxmi Ratan Shukla. Vijay gets one in the middle of the bat with a switch hit to send the ball deep into the orbit for a six. Shukla though gets out for a zero. It was nothing but an agricultural hoick across the line.
OUT! L Shukla 0(2)
Hilfenhaus into the attack. He is greeted by Karthik with a burgeoning six. He then comes down the wicket to flick him nonchalantly. He has tremendous bat speed up his sleeve. Hilfy looking out of sorts as he always does when someone goes after his mundane bowling. Hlify just seems to lack the variety to counter when a batsman goes after him. Karthik though unfortunately gets out to the final ball of the over. There is some confusion about the catch before third umpire declares him out.
OUT!D Karthik c M Sharma b Hilfenhaus 51(36)
The 13th over of the game is bowled by Ashwin. Karthik is looking to use his feet against the spinner. He even finds middle of the bat twice but isn’t able to bisect the gap in the field with needlepoint precision. Both batsmen look set and that is a good sign for DD here.
As we enter into the 12th over of the game, Dinesh Karthik plays a wonderful shot across the line off Mohit Sharma for a six. It was a full toss and Karthik took advantage of it by thwacking it for a six. As the over ends they are on 88 for 2. The over that may change the course of the game here.
Supreme timing for Vijay gets him a boundary. They need more of that. They need at least another 100 runs to get back in the game. A few towering sixes can help too here.
Karthik essays a boundary. They need more of that for sure. Chennai have kept the opposition on a tight leash here for sure. In T20s It is all about pickign the right bowler to go after and then up the ante.
Both Karthik and Vijay continue to play a steady hand as Ashwin comes into the attack. They need a few big shots here for sure. The track is flat and scoring even chasing a target of 180 needn’t be dififcult on this track.
Only three runs come off that over.
DD need to erect a solid platform here for them to build a large edifice. The onus is on Karthik and Vijay to play themselves in. The outfield is fast for sure. Vijay in frustration almost gets out as he tries to loft Pandey down the ground.
Kevin Pietersen walks into crease as de Kock unfortunately gets run out. Pietersen too loses his wicket as he is cleaned up by Mohit Sharma by the one that cuts back into KP. de Kock was sold down the river by Vijay for sure.
OUT! de Kock run out 24(16) K Pietersen b M Sharma 0(2)
de Kock nonchalantly lifts it over square leg for a six. Now that required immense timing. The willowy wielder compiles another six off the last ball of the over. Murali Vijay too essays a resplendent lofted stroke down the ground for a boundary off Pandey. DD have got going here.
de Kock plays a fine shot through the on side in the third over of the gaje. He follows it up with another suplerlative shot through the off-side. He surely loves to play on the up. There is no doubt that he is a supreme talent about to blossom in the world of cricket.
A terrific over from the seamer, Ishwar Pandey. He is getting the ball to seam and swing in ideal conditions for pace bowling. It turns out to be a maiden over. DD openers need to respect the conditions here for sure.
Delhi Daredevils start their innings against Chennai Super Kings. De Kock and Murali look for a steady start against the swing merchant Ben Hilfenhaus. Hifenhaus though is struggling a bit to get the shape back into left-handed de Kock.
Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to field against Delhi Daredevils.
Hello and welcome to the live updates of the 26th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. Table toppers, CSK will be looking to continue their winning momentum against struggling Delhi, who haven’t hit the perfect notes so far this season. I am Bharath Ramaraj, and I will take you through the proceedings.
Delhi were one of the sides in IPL 2014 auction that went into a complete revamp process, doing away with some of the big names and non-performers. However, six matches into the IPL 2014, the franchise is finding itself in similar situations like the past wherein the big names have flopped and the side has been found wanting on more than one occasions.
On the other hand, table-topper Chennai have recovered well in the tournament and are in red-hot form. Despite the absence of some of their key players, Chennai have attained momentum in the tournament at the right time and with the tournament shifting to India, they would be looking to get more ruthless in their approach. They have found an excellent opening pair in Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith, and the presence of big hitters such as Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja lower down the order provides them opportunity to put up big scores. Read the preview of the match here.
