Watson wins it for Rajasthan! First a fine effort with a bat with a quickfire 31, and then three wickets in an over that brought Rajasthan back into the match. All six balls on target in the final over, after starting with a no-ball. Rajasthan win by 10 runs!

Impressive start to the over by Faulkner as he keeps things in control. Shakib hits on deep square leg, and excellent effort by Tambe in the field keeps them only to one run. 17 runs needed off the final six balls. Fine effort by Faulkner in the penultimate over. Shane Watson to bowl the final.

Shakib Al Hasan hits a six to calm some nerves in the KKR camp. The big hit was straight down the ground off Tim Southee. Hits a four on the second last ball of the over above the fielders at covers. Watson drops a catch to get rid of the dangerous all-rounder on the final ball. 24 runs needed off the last 12 balls now.

Rajasthan are all over Kolkata Knight Riders at the moment. From a position of absolute command KKR have slipped to a situation where they need one audacious effort. Who will do it for them? Shakib? 39 runs needed off the last three overs. Only six runs in Faulkner’s over.

What an over by Pravin Tambe. A hat-trick and just four runs and he has put Rajasthan Royals back into this game. KKR need 45 runs off four overs with just four wickets in hand.

SIX wickets in eight deliveries! Unbelievable stuff from these two sides after that cracker in UAE. Kolkata letting it slip as they have lost half of their side in space of just seven deliveries. Yusuf Pathan is caught and bowled by Pravin Tambe. Its a hat-trick!!! Ryan ten Doeschate is trapped in front of the wickets on the first ball. Rajasthan are jubilant.
OUT! M Pandey st Samson b Tambe 0(0), Y Pathan c&b Tambe 0(1), ten Doeschate lbw b Tambe 0(1)

Triple strikes for Rajasthan Royals and Shane Watson! Will this be the game-changing over for them? Gambhir departs after a quickfire 54, which included six fours and a six. Gambhir goes for a mighty heavy outside off, gets an edge and Samson takes the catch. Watson strikes again as Robin Uthappa is caught in the deep. Watson then takes his revenge with Russell, knocking down his middle-stump.
OUT! G Gambhir c Samson b Watson 54(34), R Uthappa c Bhatia b Watson 65(52), A Russell b Watson 1(3)

Gautam Gambhir gets to his 21st half-century in IPL with a boundary off Faulkner. Seven runs scored off the over. KKR need 50 runs to win from the last six overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders cross 100-run mark in the 13th over. Excellent effort by Uthappa and Gambhir so far. The KKR captain celebrates it with a big six off Bhatia, and inches close to his half-century. A much-needed one. 16 runs scored off the over. This partnership is KKR’s best ever opening stand in IPL history.

Gautam Gambhir is riding on his luck here. Another reckless stroke falls short of the fielders, off Tambe. Only five runs scored in that over. KKR need 73 runs to win from 48 balls.

Robin Uthappa completes his half-century with a six over the long-on ropes off Tewatia. Kolkata Knight Riders add another 13 runs from the over. Gambhir ends the over with a four on the leg side.

Rajat Bhatia continues as he manages to keep things quiet. Rajasthan need a lot many of those, also couple of wickets. The required run rate is past nine now. Kolkata need 91 runs to win from the last 60 balls, with all 10 wickets in hand.

Close call for Gautam Gambhir as a loose shot flies over the fielder at point. The next shot falls short of fielder at short fine-leg, off Pravin Tambe. Good over for RR until Gambhir smashes the last ball for a four. Interesting stat: Gambhir completes 300 boundaries in all IPL seasons.

Desperate Rajasthan looking for breakthrough, and KKR going strong. Rahul Tewatia comes on to bowl the eighth over of the game and KKR add only five runs off him. Kolkata Knight Riders need 105 more runs from 12 overs with all wickets intact.

Robin Uthappa is looking in splendid form here. He slams Rajat Bhatia for a HUGE SIX over the midwicket region. Kolkata in complete command here in this tricky chase. KKR now need 110 runs to win from 13 overs.

Tim Southee continues and surprises Uthappa with a bouncer very close to the body. Gambhir continues to attack as this time he hits over the fielder at mid on. Not a clean hit, though. The next ball is again a four over covers, this time inside out. 11 runs scored in that over.

James Faulkner is introduced into the attack. Gambhir is looking slightly low on confidence as he is not timing the ball well. Gets a leading edge and then a mistimed pull that fell short of the fielder on the leg side. Exchange of words between Uthappa and the bowler. Gambhir improvises on the second last ball, gets a four on the leg side.

Rajasthan immediately deploy Pravin Tambe into the attack. Uthappa dances down the wicket to chip over the fielder at mid on to get another four. KKR need 139 more runs to win from 16 overs.

Watson continues as he got some swing in the first over. Uthappa looks in good touch as he gets a boundary while the fine-leg was up in the ring on the third ball. An outside edge off the fourth gets another four to the right-handed opener. It’s been a brisk start for the Knight Riders. 10 runs scored in the third over.

Tim Southee comes from the other end. He beats Robin Uthappa with one outside the off-stump, and raps him on the pads on the fourth ball. There was an inside edge. Gambhir collects three runs on the off-side on the fifth ball as there was too much width given by the bowler. Uthappa ends the over with a boundary as KKR add nine runs from the over.

Skipper Shane Watson opens the bowling and Uthappa defends a couple of deliveries. The fourth ball is short and Uthappa pulls it over mid-wicket and that has gone to the boundary for four. Uthappa then fishes for one outside the off-stump, but it misses his bat. He then drives one through the off-side and as the throw comes in, it crosses the stumps at the striker’s end. The batsmen get one for the overthrow. The first ball to Gambhir is short and he misses while he tries to pull.

Rajasthan Royals have set a competitive target on this wicket. Kolkata Knight Riders bowled well in the middle to keep the Royals tied down, which helped them to keep the opposition to 170 for six. Read the innings report here.

Steven Smith and Stuart Binny are out on consecutive deliveries off R Vinay Kumar. Ryan ten Doeschate takes a superb catch near the ropes to dismiss Binny, who walks away with a smile as an appreciation of the effort. Rajat Bhatia gets hold of the last ball to slam a six. 11 runs scored in the final over of the game and KKR will be chasing 171 to win.
OUT! S Smith c Yadav b Kumar 3(2), S Binny c ten Doeschate 11(9)

Watson is caught near the ropes — it is one of those brilliant catches that you see mostly in T20 cricket. Suryakumar Yadav takes a splendid catch couple of centimeters away from the ropes. Narine strikes as the dangerous Watson walks away. Binny, who survives an appeal for stumping, clears the boundary on the fifth ball of the over to hit a six.
OUT! S Watson c Yadav b Narine 31(20)

Watson slams one down the ground for four off Russell. 11 runs scored in that over, but there was something really unusual in it.
Bizarre scenes in the middle as during his run-up Russell halted for a while near the crease, and immediately delivered the ball. A puzzled Watson does not play the shot, and Nigel Llong thinks it is a legal delivery. Watson certainly not happy.

Narine strikes as Samson, who mistimes the stroke, is caught near the boundary on the leg side by Manish Pandey for 37. Another fine effort by the young lad in the middle-order. Stuart Binny walks in. Good over by Narine as only four runs were allowed and a wicket was grabbed. How many runs will Rajasthan pile up now?
OUT! Samson c Pandey b Narine 37(31)

Vinay Kumar is welcomed back into the attack by RR captain, who smashes him for a six on the first ball, and follows it up with a boundary through the covers on the next. Watson returns to strike on the fifth ball as he slams another six. Rajasthan seem to be picking up now after the slump.

Sunil Narine comes into the attack and he is likely to continue till the end. Samson gets a boundary off leading edge on the second ball. 10 runs scored in that over.

Shakib Al Hasan continues. Boundaries are not coming in easily for the Royals, who are looking desperate now. In a bid to score quickly, Nair departs as he dances down the wicket but misses to connect and is stumped. Shane Watson is in, and he will be looking to score as many as he can for his side.
OUT! K Nair st Uthappa b Shakib 44(35)

Gautam Gambhir may have tried several bowlers, but Yusuf Pathan has not bowled yet in this match. ten Doeschate continues from the other end. Nair gets a four on the final ball of the over as RR cross the 100-run mark.

It’s now turn of Umesh Yadav and the right-arm pacer continues the good work. After a long interval, Nair manages to clear the boundary as he smashes the second six of the match. Good over from RR’s perspective as 11 runs come off it.

Gambhir continues to play around with the bowling options that he has, as comeback man Ryan ten Doeschate comes into the attack. Impressive start by the KKR all-rounder as he continues to maintain the pressure exerted on the RR batsmen by the other bowlers. Only five runs scored in that over.

Shakib continues as Rajasthan batsmen are now trying to score some runs quickly. But Nair and Samson can manage only five runs off the Bangladesh all-rounder. Kolkata Knight Riders seem to have pulled back things in control with that big wicket of Rahane in the sixth over.

Russell is smashed for a four by Samson behind the point on the second ball of the over. Eight runs added in that over and it’s time for a short break.

Shakib comes back into the attack and Nair and Samson scramble to add runs off the left-handed spinner. Rajasthan Royals would be looking to continue the momentum, whereas KKR would aim to maintain the pressure.

Gambhir continues to experiment as Andre Russell comes on to bowl the seventh over of the innings. Nair tries to take a cheeky single, but Narine’s direct hit from short fine-leg sends back Rahane to the hut. Samson gets a boundary on the third-man area off the final ball.
OUT! Rahane run out (Narine) 30(22)

Gautam Gambhir summons his best bowler, Sunil Narine, to stop the run flow. Narine starts off with a peach of a delivery that beats Nair outside the off stump. Rahane gets a four through the covers on the final ball.

Change in the bowling as Shakib Al Hasan comes on to bowl. Karun Nair, after seeing off the first ball, smashes two boundaries on the leg side. 11 runs scored off Shakib’s first over.

Umesh Yadav continues from the other end. The first ball is outside the off-stump, and Rahane misses to connect. The third ball is a slower one on the pads, and Rahane smashes it over the midwicket area for a four. The next ball is again on the same line, and this time Rahane is smart enough to send it over the ropes. 12 runs scored off the right-arm pacer’s over.

Vinay Kumar continues to bowl on the leg stump as Rajasthan batsmen scramble to collect six runs off the first three balls. Vinay Kumar improvises to keep the batsmen quiet on the last three deliveries.

Umesh Yadav comes on to bowl the second over of the match. Nair gets off the mark on the third ball with a cracking boundary past the fielder at point. The right-handed batsman collects three more runs on the leg side with a flick. Nine runs scored in the over.

Ajinkya Rahane is off with a boundary on the first ball from R Vinay Kumar. It was a bad delivery, drifting down the leg and Rahane just pushed it towards the deep square leg area for a four. Karun Nair sees off the next three balls of the over.

Hello and welcome to the love blog of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2014 match 25 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Ahmedabad. It’s a new test for RR as they were used to playing at their fortress, Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Unbeaten in their previous season playing at Jaipur, they will certainly miss their home ground. Up against them are a jittery unit led by Gautam Gambhir. This is Devarchit Varma, and I will be bringing you over-by-over updates of the match.

No one will forget the last instance of these two teams facing off a few days back. A thrilling tie followed by a Super over which ended in a tie as well and Rajasthan eventually scampered home having hit more boundaries. The Royals will surely have their heads held high against a misfiring Kolkata unit.

There are some positives for both sides going in to the match. Rajasthan look much settled whereas some of Kolkata’s batsmen have done well. Suryakumar Yadav in particular has been the most consistent batsman batting down the order. With the top order not firing, it’s likely that Yadav will be promoted so as to get more  time to spend at the crease. In the bowling, Rajasthan are going great guns with veteran Pravin Tambe proving to be successful. On the other hand, KKR have their trump card Sunil Narine. It’s going to be an interesting clash. Read the preview of the match here.
