Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first day of the historic day-night Test between Australia and New Zealand at Adelaide. This is the third and final Test of what has been a slightly underwhelming series, dominated by the batsmen. I am Shiamak Unwalla, and I will bring you all the live cricket scores and updates from this match. Australia are leading the series 1-0 after winning the opening Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. The second Test at the WACA in Perth ended in a tame draw as both teams racked up over 600 in their respective first innings. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Australia vs New Zealand, 3rd Test at Adelaide

Live cricket score: Australia 36/2 | Overs 15 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 17(32), Adam Voges 2(6) | Doug Bracewell and Mitchell Santner are bowling in tandem. Santner getting mild turn, but he is bowling a bit too flat and quick. OH BOWLED HIM! Bracewell gets an inside edge from Burns. In walks Adam Voges to join Steven Smith. OUT! Joe Burns 14(41) b Doug Bracewell

Live cricket score: Australia 25/1 | Overs 9 | BATSMEN: Joe Burns 9(23), Steven Smith 14(20) | The Kiwis have bowled well so far, but Smith and Burns are batting well also. The pitch is far from flat, but it holds no real demons either. This is good stuff from both sides at the moment.

Live cricket score: Australia 8/1 | Overs 4 | BATSMEN: Joe Burns 6(12), Steven Smith 1(1) | Trent Boult and Tim Southee start off. Joe Burns and David Warner for Australia. David Warner 1(11) c Tim Southee b Trent Boult

Live cricket score: New Zealand 202 | Overs 65.2 | BATSMEN: Trent Boult 2(7) | Mitchell Starc is unfortunately off the field, he has gone for a few scans. Hope he is okay soon. Tim Southee trying his best to slog his way out of trouble, but he is missing more than he hits. AND GONE. This was inevitable. Southee holes out. OUT! Tim Southee 16(15) c David Warner b Josh Hazlewood

Live cricket score: New Zealand 194/9 | Overs 62.2 | BATSMEN: Tim Southee 10(4), Trent Boult 0(0) | Josh Hazlewood has bowled quite a probing line, and Peter Siddle has been excellent as well. Bracewell and Watling need to dig in and target 200. OH GONE. That’s Watling caught at slip. In walks Tim Southee. FOUR and SIX to start off. Typical Southee! AND ANOTHER. Siddle picks up Bracewell. New Zealand are nine down. OUT! BJ Watling 29(80) c Steven Smith b Josh Hazlewoo, Doug Bracewell 11(30) c Joe Burns b Peter Siddle

Live cricket score: New Zealand 182/7 | Overs 59 | BATSMEN: BJ Watling 29(72), Doug Bracewell 9(22) | Watling and Bracewell will want to set themselves small targets. First, get to 200. Next target 225, then 250, and so on. Peter Siddle and Josh Hazlewood in operation at the moment.

Live cricket score: New Zealand 173/7 | Overs 56 | BATSMEN: BJ Watling 24(64), Doug Bracewell 5(12) | OH GONE! Nathan Lyon has struck, and New Zealand’s woes continue. This has been a superb session for the Australians. NZ go to dinner at 173 for 7! OUT! Mark Craig 11(14) b Nathan Lyon

Live cricket score: New Zealand 154/6 | Overs 49 | BATSMEN: BJ Watling 13(40), Mark Craig 11(8) | Mitchell Santner has looked really impressive in the last hour or so. He has shown good technique and excellent temperament. OH GONE! Mitchell Starc has the last laugh, bowls Santner off the inside edge! And gives him an unnecessary send-off as well. Mark Craig comes in and hits a couple of boundaries off Peter Siddle! OUT! Mitchell Santner 31(46) b Mitchell Starc

Live cricket score: New Zealand 138/5 | Overs 45 | BATSMEN: Mitchell Santner 27(43), BJ Watling 13(26) | Both Mitchells (It used to be two of the three) in action now. Starc and Marsh. The third Mitchell (not Johnson) is batting quite beautifully for a debutant. BJ Watling showing a lot of character as usual.

Live cricket score: New Zealand 121/5 | Overs 40 | BATSMEN: Mitchell Santner 15(27), BJ Watling 8(12) | Mitchell Santner is giving an excellent account of himself on debut. He is batting with immense confidence but not playing any rash shots. BJ Watling at the other end is holding his end up well.

Live cricket score: New Zealand 98/5 | Overs 34 | BATSMEN: Mitchell Santner 0(0), BJ Watling 0(0) | Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle start off after tea (it’s going to take a while before we start thinking of the tea session as the first one of a day!). GONE! Lyon snaps up Latham, caught behind! In walks the skipper. Siddle now. ANOTHER ONE DOWN! That’s the end of Taylor! AND A THIRD! Peter Nevill is geting easy catches left and right. Baz edges behind now. OUT! Tom Latham 50(103) c Peter Nevill b Nathan Lyon, Ross Taylor 21(25) c Peter Nevill b Peter Siddle, Brendon McCullum 4(6) c Peter Nevill b Mitchell Starc

Live cricket score: New Zealand 80/2 | Overs 28 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 50(94), Ross Taylor 7(7) | FIFTY for Latham in the first-ever day-night Test. A shorter delivery from Lyon, Latham goes down the line, cuts through beating the backward point and boundary towards the third man. Excellent innings from him so far. Tea taken at Adelaide.

Live cricket score: New Zealand 59/2 | Overs 23.4 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 36(75),  | Lunch around 20 minutes away now. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood come back on to replace Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon. Kane Williamson seems to have gone into a shell a bit, but Tom Latham is keeping the runs coming at the other end. GONE! Starc gets Williamson LBW! Great swinging yorker. OUT! Kane Williamson 22(58) LBW Mitchell Starc

Live cricket score: New Zealand 50/1 | Overs 18 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 28(61), Kane Williamson 21(38) | Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon are getting the ball to ask a few questions. The ball has spun quite nicely for Lyon. Meanwhile Siddle has got the ball to bounce awkwardly for Latham as well. Good stuff all-round.

Live cricket score: New Zealand 43/1 | Overs 13 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 22(46), Kane Williamson 20(23) | One hour into this Test and we have seen 43 runs and a wicket. Live cricket score: New Zealand 29/1 | Overs 8 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 12(22), Kane Williamson 16(17) | Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are bowling well, but Kane Williamson is on a different plane. He has looked in complete control since the first ball. Tom Latham is looking fairly

Live cricket score: New Zealand 8/1 | Overs 4 | BATSMEN: Tom Latham 6(12), Kane Williamson 1(3) | Josh Hazlewood opens bowling at the other end. There seems to be a bit of seam and swing on offer. The two New Zealand openers have looked a bit edgy to begin with. Huge appeal, AND HE’S GONE! Hazlewood strikes early, and Martin Guptill becomes the first ever wicket in day-night Tests! OUT! Martin Guptill 1(9) LBW Josh Hazlewood

Live cricket score: New Zealand 2/0 | Overs 1 | BATSMEN: Martin Guptill 1(5), Tom Latham 1(1) | Mitchell Starc takes the new pink ball. Martin Guptill to face the first ever ball of a day-night Test. Bit of in-swing to begin with. Guptill scores the first run in day-night Tests. Who will take the first wicket? Who will be the first wicket? Lots to watch out for. Latham off the mark as well, so neither of these openers will be the first duck in day-night Tests.

As reported by AFP, ICC chief executive David Richardson said that the first ever day-night Test would be vital for the game. “The game needed to understand the demands and expectations of both the fans and its key stakeholders, and Tests played into the evening session will provide an option to countries where Test cricket was facing attendance and commercial issues. The reality is that Test cricket is faced with challenges such as declining crowd attendances in some countries, as well as issues of context and competition for attention from shorter formats of the game. Either we do nothing, and let the appetite for Test cricket die, or deal with the problem head-on and with an innovative and proactive approach.” READ: Australia vs New Zealand 2015, 3rd Test at Adelaide: Will the bowlers get their due in first-ever day-night Test?
