Aiden Blizzard recieves the man-of-the-match award for his blistering innings of 78 runs off 46 balls that propelled the Hurricanes towards the path of victory. That’s it from us on the sixth match of the ongoing CLT20. This is Amit Banerjee signing off for now. Do stay tuned with us for live updates and reports on the upcoming match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lahore Lions to be held shortly at the same venue.

Fantastic win for the Hobart Hurricanes after their defeat at the hands of Kings XI Punjab in their opening encounter of the tournament. 45 runs off the the 18th and 19th overs speaks volumes about the Cobras’ death-bowling skills and Blizzard’s ability to blow the opposition away when in form. The Cape Cobras are on the verge of an exit and will be ruing Dane Piedt’s injury as well as Philander’s no-ball, which changed the course of the match. Read the match report by Shiamak Unwala here.

And the Hobart Hurricanes bring up their victory in style with a six off the final delivery of the penultimate over bowled by Charl Langeveldt. Langeveldt, who is the only bowler other than Engelbrecht to take a wicket in the match, was brought in to the attack by Ontong to bowl a tight-over, but ended up conceding 21 runs instead.
Philander’s final over is a disaster as he concedes 24 runs at such a crucial juncture, leaving the Hurricanes needing 20 runs from 12 balls with six wickets in hand. Blizzard has made the most of the second life that has been bestowed upon him and has already reached a score of 65.
Blizzard survives a dismissal scare immediately after bringing up his half-century off 39 balls as a catch by Engelbrecht is dismissed by the umpires Philander was found to be overstepping. What’s worse, a free-hit is awarded at this stage with Blizzard himself on strike.
Charl Langeveldt concedes six runs from his third over, which is good for the death overs.
Ten runs off Robin Peterson’s third over as the Hurricanes need another 50 runs from 24 balls. A wicket at this stage would increase the pressure levels on the Hurricanes by catastophic levels.
End of Engelbrecht’s final over and he finishes with figures of three wickets for 20 runs and has undoubtebly played a major role in maintaining the pressure on the Hurricanes.
Engelbrecht gets his third dismissal of the innings as Travis Birt departs for a score of seven runs. The Hurricanes are in a spot of bother right now as they have lost their fourth wicket and need another 64 runs with less than six overs left and six wickets in hand. The Hurricanes need a Peterson-Philander-like partnership to come their way.
OUT! Travis Birt c Ramela b Engelbrecht 7(6)
Six runs from the Engelbrecht’s second third over of the match.
Engelbrecht is fast turning out to be a gem for his team as he takes his second wicket of the match. Shoaib Malik gets a top-edge and Philander collects the catch at short-third man as the Hurricanes lose their third wicket.
OUT! Shoaib Malik c Philander b Engelbrecht 8(7)
Robin Peterson’s second over of the innings is worth ten runs for the Hurricanes, which is a slight improvement from his first, which cost him and his team 17 runs.
End of the eleventh over by Sybrand Engelbrecht as the immensely experienced Shoaib Malik comes in and will hope to stick to the crease till the end.
The Cobras get the big wicket as Dunk is dismissed for 54. And it is none other than Sybrand Engelbrecht who gets the big man out! Dunk will be left ruing the shot off a delivery which was slow and pitched outside off, only for Cobras skipper Justin Ontong to take an easy catch at long-off
OUT! Ben Dunk c Ontong b Engelbrecht 54(35)
Justin Ontong’s maiden over goes for five runs as the Hurricanes are going steady at a run-rate of nine with 95 runs needed off another 60 balls.
Sybrand Engelbrecht’s maiden over goes for six runs as the Hurricanes need exactly a 100 runs from here onwards. The Cobras will desperately look for a wicket now in order to stifle the situation for Hobart.
And Dunk brings up his fifty off just 30 balls in a knock that contained tyen fours, at a magnanimous strike rate of 166. Aviwe Mgijima’s over goes for 13 runs, which included a boundary off the first and fifth deliveries off the bat of Aiden Blizzard.
Dane Piedt bowls his second over of the match and concedes six runs from it. A stumping chance of Dunk brought a brief glimmer of hope in the minds of the Cobras, which however was ruled not out. Hashim Amla bowls the last delivery of the over after Piedt had to be taken off the field after complaining of pain in his right arm
Four runs from Philander’s second over, a remarkable improvement from his first which went for fourteen that threatened to ruin his contribution towards his team with the bat in the earlier innings.
A near-perfect over by Langeveldt is ruined by an overthrow that gifts Blizzard four runs. The Cobras are far from relaxed as of now as the dangerous Dunk is still at the crease at the moment.
Charl Lengeveldt finally gets his man as the slower ball does the trick and brings an end to the whirlwind opening partnership of 51 runs off just 28 balls. Clever display of bowling as Langeveldt bowls a bouncer in the previous delivery and bowls a slower one in the very next ball. Paine attempts a slog and completely misses the line as the middle-stumps gets uprooted.
OUT! Tim Paine b Langeveldt 7(10)
The fourth over by Robin Peterson goes for 17 runs as Ben Dunk is making merry of the bowling attack that looks hapless so far. The last four deliveries of Ben Dunk’s over go for boundaries all over the ground as the opening duo near the fifty-partnership mark and look well set to chase the target.
Vernon Philander comes in to bowl the third over and is smashed for a couple of boundaries off the first two deliveries by the hard-hitting Dunk. A no-ball further increased the woes for Philander, whose late hitting helped Cobras reach a score of 184. Justin Ontong will plan a shuffle in the bowling attack soon in order to get a breakthrough.
The second over by Charl Langeveldt goes for the exact number of runs as the first one as Hobart are off to a decent start, though one cannot make predictions as yet.
The first over by Dane Piedt goes for seven runs, exactly the same as the first over faced by the Cobras. One boundary comes off the over as Char Langeveldt will bowl the next over.

Tim Paine and Ben Dunk walk out to the centre as the Hobart Hurricanes innings is to start any moment.

A fantastic effort by Vernon Philander and Robin Petereson ensures that the Cape Cobras finish on a challinging total of 185/6 from their quota of 20 overs. While Richard Levi’s fireworks took built the momentum and it was ultimately the Peterson-Philander partnership which contained several fours and sixes that took them this far.

The innings comes to a close for The Cape Cobras as they hit XX runs in the final over by Ben Laughlin to finish at a score of 190/6. Philander hits a boundary off the the last ball to bring up the fifty-partnership as well.
Two consecutive boundaries smashed by Vernon Philander in Doug Bollinger has taken the Cobras to a respectable score so far and the batting team will aim for a 180-plus total from here.
11 runs from Laughlin’s final over as he ends with figures of 4-0-31-2. The previous over had an eventful moment when Travis Birt made a sensational dive for a catch, but did not claim it.
Philander overtakes Peterson’s score in no time and displays a mood to hunt as Doherty finishes his quota of four overs conceding 29 runs for no wicket.
The Cobras lose their sixth wicket as laughlin gets his second scalp after conceding 18 runs and is easily the pick among the Hobart bowlers in the match so far. Engelbrecht attempts to pull a slower delivery from Laughlin and manages to get a faint knick to it.
OUT! Sybrand Engelbrecht c Paine b Laughlin 12(15)
Just four runs coming off the fifteenth over by Bollinger, whose line and length is causing great discomfort to the Engelbrecht and Peterson. Bollinger, Hilfenhuas and Doherty have an over left each in the remainder of the innings.
Doug Bollinger to come in to bowl the 15th over. Vilas’ dismissal was as unlucky as crucial to the Hurricanes who will look to choke up the run flow in the death overs.
Vilas departs for 25 as he plays the Hilfenhaus delivery onto his stumps while attempting to send it towards the fine third man.
OUT! Dane Vilas b Hilfenhaus 25(22),
With just seven overs to go for the Cobras innings to come to a close, Dane Vilas and Engelbrecht will be looking to start smashing the bowlers for the boundaries in order to post a competitive total.
Justin Ontong gets his stumps shattered by Mennie while attempting to play a shot through the off-side as Cobras lose their fourth wicket.
OUT! Justin Ontong b Mennie 10 (8)
Shoaib Malik introduced into the attack as skipper Ontong is getting used to the crease slowly

The Cobras innings has reached its halfway mark as the run is over nine. The Cobras have lost the in-form batsman Richard Levi in the previous over.

The powerful Richard Levi falls to a slower delivery from Ben Laughlin and misses his half-century. An half-hearted slog gets him caught at deep mid-wicket.
OUT! Richard Levi c Mennie b Laughlin 42(30)

The Hobart Hurricanes are in desperate need of a wicket rigth now

Ben Laughlin replaces Hilfenhaus in the attack as Levi nears his fifty.

The onslaught continues as ten run comes of the third Doherty over. The run rate is well over ten runs per over at the moment.

Fifteen runs from Hilfenhaus’s second over of the match and this one’s expensive. Richard Levi finally means business and is beginning to flex his muscular arms as he despatched three of Hilfenhaus’s deliveries for boundaries.

Two consecutive boundaries in the last two balls of Doherty’s second over ruined an over which was going perfectly for the Hurricanes, the first four deliveries of which were dot balls.

The run rate has caught up after the run fest that occured in the previous over courtesy two sixes and a boundary.

An entertaining cameo by Ramila comes to an end as Bollinger manages to hit back after getting smashed all over the park for three consecutive deliveries. The Cape Cobras were beginning to open up when a second strike occured.
OUT! Omphile Ramela b Bollinger 21(11)

Four runs from the third over bowled by Xavier Doherty as run rate is a touch over seven runs per over at the moment.

Hilfenhaus’ strike is bound to stop the flow of runs for now and the batsmen at ateh crease loo slightly uncomfortable against the short-pitched stuff being dished to them.

Hilfenhaus manages to get the early strike as as he removes the dangerous Amla, who has struck two boundaries so far in the match. Amla misses the delivery completely and gets his middle stump uprooted.
OUT! Hashim Amla b Hilfenhaus 8(6)

With two wides and a boundary, the first over by Bollinger is not the kind of start that the Hurricanes would have wanted.

The players walk into the field. Hashim Amla and Richard Levi open the innings for the Cobras as Doug Bollinger is ready to open the bowling.

Cape Cobras XI: Hashim Amla, Richard Levi, Omphile Ramela, Dane Vilas (wk), Justin Ontong (c), Sybrand Engelbrecht, Vernon Philander, Robin Peterson, Dane Piedt, Aview Mgijima, Charl Langeveldt.

Hobart Hurricanes XI: Tim Paine(c) (wk), Ben Dunk, Aiden Blizzard, Shoaib Malik, Travis Birt, Jonathan Wells, Joe Mennie, Ben Hilfenhaus, Xavier Doherty, Doug Bollinger, Ben Laughlin

The Cape Cobras have won the toss and have elected to bat first. Cobras skipper Justin Ontong looks to utilise the batting track in order to put some substantial runs on the board and put pressure on the opposition. For the Cobras, Rory Kleinveldt, Justin Kemp and Stiaan van Zyl have been replaced by Richard Levi, Sybrand Engelbrecht and Dane Piedt.

For Hobart, Evan Gulbis and Cameron Boyce have been replaced by Xavier Doherty and Joe Mennie.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the sixth Champions League Twenty 20 (CLT20) 2014 match between Cape Cobras and Hobart Hurricanes. I am Amit Banerjee and I will be bringing you the live updates of this match.

Both teams have lost their previous encounter in the CLT20, and will look to avoid any further losses otherwise their campaign to win the coveted trophy may be in trouble. Cobras were outdone by a scintillating century from Kane Williamson, and will hope that no Hobart batsman is able to emulate his form.

The sides are fairly evenly-matched in terms of talent. The Cobras perhaps hold the advantage over the Hurricanes owing to the amount of international experience they possess. Hashim Amla, Justin Ontong, Justin Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Robin Peterson, and Vernon Philander are all either current or former South African nationals.

Hobart too have the likes of Tim Paine, Xavier Doherty, Ben Hifenhaus, Doug Bollinger, and Shoaib Malik in their line-up. With a number of international players in the midst, the quality of cricket ought to be of the highest order.

Squads:

Cape Cobras: Justin Ontong (c), Hashim Amla, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Dane Vilas (wk), Justin Kemp, Rory Kleinveldt, Charl Langeveldt, Richard Levi, Aviwe Mgijima, Robin Peterson, Vernon Philander, Dane Piedt, Zakhele Qwabe, Omphile Ramela, Stiaan Van Zyl

Hobart Hurricanes: Tim Paine (c&wk), Jonathan Wells, Evan Gulbis, Xavier Doherty, Ben Hifenhaus, Dom Michael, Sam Rainbird, Travis Birt, Doug Bollinger, Aiden Blizzard, Cameron Boyce, Joe Mennie, Ben Laughlin, Ben Dunk, Shoaib Malik
