SA 32/2 (Target 310), Live Cricket Score India vs South Africa 2015, 3rd Test at Nagpur, Day 2: SA struggling at Stumps

Welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket coverage of the second day of the third Test between India and South Africa at Nagpur.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the second day’s play between India and South Africa, in the third of their four-Test series at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. I am Suvajit Mustafi, and I will bring you the updates on this cricket blog. India are currently leading the four-Test series 1-0, following a 108-run win in the first Test at Mohali. Despite holding an upper hand in the second Test at Bengaluru, India’s chances were marred by rains. The Day One at Nagpur clearly belonged to India. Though they didn’t get a huge score on the board, on a rank turner surface, India crawled to 215 and had South Africa reeling at 11 for two. The Indian spinners hold the key. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have already struck once each. Amit Mishra will want to join the party as well. Catch all the updates here. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs South Africa 2015, 1st Test at Mohali

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 32/2 | Over 14 | Target 310 | BATSMEN: Dean Elgar 10(42), Hashim Amla 3(7)| Ashwin to bowl the last over of the day and he ends it with a maiden. It’s STUMPS on Day Two. If Day One saw 12 wickets falling, the second day saw as many as 20 wickets to fall. It was surely an action-filled day of Test cricket but a lot of questions will asked on the pitch. It has left the cricket world debating. From Michael Clarke to Herschelle Gibbs everyone tweeted about the game.

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 32/2 | Over 12 | Target 310 | BATSMEN: Dean Elgar 10(36), Hashim Amla 3(1)| And Mishra strikes with his first ball. Mishra was dismissed by DD teammate Tahir and he returned the favours. OUT! Imran Tahir lbw b Amit Mishra 8 (7)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 21/1 | Over 8 | Target 310 | BATSMEN: Dean Elgar 1(9), Stiaan van Zyl 4(16) | In the sixth over, Elgar smacks Ashwin to the boundary. Jadeja bowls the seventh over and concedes a bye-four. Ashwin to continue bowling and guess what? He has picked up the first wicket. Van Zyl’s disappointing run continues. He has driven that straight to short cover. Once again it’s Imran Tahir who comes out at No.3 and smacks the first ball for a boundary. OUT! Stiaan van Zyl c RG Sharma b Ashwin 5 (29)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 7/0 | Over 4 | Target 310 | BATSMEN:  Dean Elgar 1(9), Stiaan van Zyl 4(16) | It has been a watchful start from South Africa. Quite surprisingly no wicket has fallen in the first four overs. It will be a big achievement for them if they see the day off with no loss of wickets.

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 0/0 | Over 1 | Target 310 | BATSMEN:  Dean Elgar 0(6), Stiaan van Zyl 0(0) | Ishant Sharma starts the proceedings and it’s a maiden over. It’s Ashwin to bowl from the other end.

Live Cricket Score: India 173 all out| Overs 46.3 | Lead by 309 runs | BATSMEN: Ishant Sharma 1(3) | Bowled! The ball skids and Tahir beats his Delhi Daredevils’ co-leggie with that. He picks up his fifth wicket and India are bowled out for 173. End of a good cameo from Mishra. South Africa will have to chase down 310 to level the series. Tough ask indeed. OUT! Amit Mishra b Imran Tahir 14 (18) Here’s Pramod Ananth’s India’s innings report

Live Cricket Score: India 171/9| Overs 46 | Lead by 307 runs | BATSMEN: Amit Mishra 13(16), Ishant Sharma 0(2) | Morkel gets his 3rd wicket. Rohit plays it early, looks to flick and the ball lofts up in the air and Elgar at mid-on makes no mistake. OUT! Rohit Sharma c Dean Elgar b Morne Morkel 23 (39)

Live Cricket Score: India 167/8| Overs 45 | Lead by 303 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 22(36), Amit Mishra 10(15) | Mishra plays that inside out and lofts Tahir over extra-cover for a four. The lead goes past 300. Mishra is looking extremely confident and India have put up a series winning score. Jadeja’s dismissal surely disappointed this little one

Live Cricket Score: India 151/8| Overs 42 | Lead by 287 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 21(31), Amit Mishra 1(2) | Morkel picks up his second wicket. India falling like pack of cards. Ashwin is out for 7 and he was caught right in plumb. The ball swings back and catches Ashwin right in front. Can India get to 300? Depends on Rohit and the support he gets. OUT! Ravichandran Ashwin lbw b Morkel 7 (22)

Live Cricket Score: India 142/7| Overs 39 | Lead by 278 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 20(30), Ravichandran Ashwin 0(7) | Rohit is now taking the attack to the opposition. He has already hit a four and a six. He is looking to score them quickly as it hasn’t been an easy ride at the wicket. India will look to get at least 300.

Live Cricket Score: India 128/7| Overs 36 | Lead by 264 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 6(16), Ravichandran Ashwin 0(3) | Harmer joins the party and cleans up Jadeja. Rather Jadeja chops that to his stumps. A bit short and Jadeja looks to cut it and drags that back to the stumps. Harmer  gets his first wicket. OUT! Ravindra Jadeja b Simon Harmer 5 (6)

Live Cricket Score: India 128/6| Overs 35 | Lead by 264 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 6(16), Ravindra Jadeja 5(3) | Now what happened there? Wriddhiman Saha has got himself dismissed in a bizarre way. Tried to sweep that one from Tahir, got a glove and it straight hit wicketkeeper Dane Vilas on his foot before lobbing to Hashim Amla. Third Umpire confirms that it’s out. Poor Saha has to walk back and Tahir now has four. Jadeja comes out and smacks a full toss to the extra-cover fence. OUT! Wriddhiman Saha c Hashim Amla b Imran Tahir 7 (13)

Live Cricket Score: India 122/5| Overs 34 | Lead by 258 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 6(13), Wriddhiman Saha 7(12) | India’s lead crosses 250. Saha beautifully drives Harmer for a boundary. Perhaps attacking is the best option at this wicket.

Here’s how Tahir got his wickets

Live Cricket Score: India 108/5| Overs 31 | Lead by 244 runs | BATSMEN: Rohit Sharma 0(4), Wriddhiman Saha 0(3) | What is happening here? Imran Tahir has picked up his 3rd wicket. This time it’s Rahane who throws it away. Rahane plays a lose stroke again. Perhaps he was done by the pitch and is caught at short third man. It’s TEA on Day Two. 101 runs have come in this session and India have lost five wickets. This has been an insane Test. Read Pramod Ananth’s Tea report

Live Cricket Score: India 107/4| Overs 29 | Lead by 243 runs | BATSMEN: Ajinkya Rahane 8(8), Rohit Sharma 0(0) | Now Kohli gives it away.Tries to take Tahir out of the attack by playing an ambitious shot, miscues it and is caught at long-off. Another wicket thrown away. Tahir gets his second wicket. India lose their fourth wicket. OUT! Virat Kohli c Faf du Plessis b Imran Tahir 16 (30)

Live Cricket Score: India 97/3| Overs 27 | Lead by 233 runs | BATSMEN: Virat Kohli 14(25), Ajinkya Rahane 0(1) | After all the hard work, Dhawan has given it away. Dhawan attempts a reverse sweep and edges that to Vilas. Very good catch! Not needed from Dhawan. OUT! Shikhar Dhawan c Dane Vilas b Imran Tahir 39 (78)

Live Cricket Score: India 96/2| Overs 26 | Lead by 232 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 39(77), Virat Kohli 13(21) | Good over for India. Dhawan sweeps Harmer for a boundary, follows that with another sweep and Elgar misfields and it’s another four. 12 from the over.

Live Cricket Score: India 84/2| Overs 25 | Lead by 220 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 28(72), Virat Kohli 12(20) | So it’s Imran Tahir finally bowling. South Africa have managed to check India’s scoring in the last few overs but batsmen don’t seem to be facing a lot of problems. Two runs from Tahir’s first over. Meanwhile, the pitch talk has been the centre of discussion for cricket world.

Live Cricket Score: India 80/2| Overs 20 | Lead by 216 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 27(55), Virat Kohli 10(13) | Kohli elegantly drives the last ball from Morkel through the cover region for a boundary. Kohli just leaned into and executed it aptly. He’s looking good and runs are coming too easy for India. In the 16th over, we saw Elgar dropping Dhawan. How costly will it be for South Africa?

Live Cricket Score: India 74/2| Overs 20 | Lead by 210 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 26(54), Virat Kohli 5(8) | Duminy to continue and it’s again a 13-run over. Dhawan smacks him for three boundaries — through mid-wicket, then through fine-leg and the short ball pulled through mid-wicket. This is poor bowling and the lead is now 210. Morkel has now been brought into the attack for some damage control. So it will be Morkel vs Kohli again.

Live Cricket Score: India 57/2| Overs 18 | Lead by 193 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 14(47), Virat Kohli 1(2) | JP Duminy into the attack. Two rank long hops and Pujara pulls both of them to boundary. Duminy gets him with the third ball. That’s a ripper — a drifter that surprises Pujara and gazes his off-stump. Virat Kohli is out in the middle. 13 from the over and the wicket of Pujara. OUT! Cheteshwar Pujara b JP Duminy 31 (45)

Live Cricket Score: India 44/1| Overs 17 | Lead by 180 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 12(46), Cheteshwar Pujara 23(42) | Runs coming easily for India now. Keeps low and Pujara gets an inside edge to the boundary. Follows the four with a good stroke this time. Rabada bowls on the pads and Pujara flicks it for a four.

Live Cricket Score: India 35/1| Overs 16 | Lead by 171 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 12(45), Cheteshwar Pujara 14(37) | Dhawan looks to sweep Harmer, gets a top edge and Elgar runs in from fine-leg and drops it. It was surely a chance and has gone down. Can South Africa afford this?

Live Cricket Score: India 29/1| Overs 12 | Lead by 165 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 11(33), Cheteshwar Pujara 12(24) | India are slowly building the lead. Harmer is bowling a good line and troubling the Indian batsman. There was a big appeal in the second ball of the 12th over. The key here is to spend more time on the wicket and these two batters have done a decent job so far. There’s plenty of time left in the game and India should look to build a lead way past 300.

Live Cricket Score: India 20/1| Overs 9 | Lead by 156 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 6(24), Cheteshwar Pujara 8(15) | Morkel is bowling like an off-spinner here. It’s good to see him making use of the track. He has slowed down the pace and is getting the desired bounce because of his height. He is mixing it up — one ball over 140 and then 118. Mixing slower balls with occasional fast ones. It will be interesting to see when South Africa introduce their premier spinner Imran Tahir into the attack. Even in the first innings he played second to Harmer.

Live Cricket Score: India 12/1| Overs 5 | Lead by 148 runs | BATSMEN:  Shikhar Dhawan 3(11), Cheteshwar Pujara 4(4) | Vijay departs. South Africa have struck after lunch. It was a half-volley slow off-cutter. Amla tries to guide it to third-man but edges it to Amla at slip. OUT! Murali Vijay c Hashim Amla b Morne Morkel 5 (15)

There’s been so much spin in the wicket that even Morne Morkel decided to give the leather, a spin.

Live Cricket Score: India 7/0| Overs 4 | Lead by 143 runs | BATSMEN:  Murali Vijay 5(14), Shikhar Dhawan 2(10) | It’s LUNCH on Day Two. India have clearly dominated. It was once again a spin show with Ashwin and Jadeja picking 5 and 4 wickets respectively. South Africa’s 79 is the lowest score put up by any team against India in Test cricket. In just one session, India have turned the match their way. If India manage a win here, it will be South Africa’s first away Test series loss in nine years. Yes, the wicket wasn’t the best one but South African batsmen apart from Duminy showed little application. As Harsha Bhogle put it aptly, “There were demons in the pitch and demons in the mind.” Read Pramod Ananth’s lunch report.

Live Cricket Score: India 5/0| Overs 2 | Lead by 141 runs | BATSMEN:  Murali Vijay 4(9), Shikhar Dhawan 1(3) | It’s Simon Harmer with the new ball from the other end. Vijay places the fifth ball over the square-leg boundary for a four.

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 79 all out | Overs 33.1 | Trail by 136 runs | BATSMEN:  Kagiso Rabada 0(4), Morne Morkel 0(0) | Kagiso Rabada 6(17)*| Ashwin gets his fifth one! Morkel  gets an outside edge, the ball loops to Ashwin. South Africa are dismissed for 79. It’s their lowest total against India and it’s the lowest score a team has scored against India in Test cricket. OUT! Morne Morkel c & b Ravichandran Ashwin 1 (2)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 79/9 | Overs 33 | Trail by 136 runs | BATSMEN:  Kagiso Rabada 6(17), Morne Morkel 1(1) | Amit Mishra joins the party here. Tosses the second ball of the over and gets it to turn sharply. Duminy comes forward but gets beaten as the ball thuds to his front pad. Maybe it was turning a bit too much but umpire doesn’t think so. It’s a big wicket and a three figure looks a difficult job. OUT! JP Duminy lbw b Amit Mishra 35 (65) Live Cricket Score: South Africa 66/8 | Overs 28 | Trail by 149 runs | BATSMEN:  JP Duminy 29(49), Kagiso Rabada 0(4) | What was that? Ashwin has dismissed Harmer with a carrom ball and that too between his legs. Pitched way outside the leg stump, Harmer looks to play down the leg but the ball turns like a leg-spin, goes between his legs and clips the off-stump. OUT! Simon Harmer b Ravichandran Ashwin 13 (10)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 65/7 | Overs 26 | Trail by 150 runs | BATSMEN:  JP Duminy 29(44), Simon Harmer 12(7) | Harmer has shown a positive intent and sweeps Ashwin for a boundary off the third ball. It’s DRINKS and South Africa have lost five wickets prior to that.

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 55/7 | Overs 23 | Trail by 160 runs | BATSMEN:  JP Duminy 25(30), Simon Harmer 7(3) | That’s unplayable! Jadeja cleans up Vilas with a beauty. That squared him off and takes the off-stump. OUT! Dane Vilas b Ravindra Jadeja 1 (15)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 47/6 | Overs 22 | Trail by 168 runs | BATSMEN:  JP Duminy 24(29), Dane Vilas 1(13) | It’s all happening at Nagpur. Two dropped catches, one missed stumping and a six from Duminy. Seems like he is fighting a long battle while Dane Vilas continues to live-on dangerously. The Day Two track has more cracks certainly

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 35/6 | Overs 17 | Trail by 180 runs | BATSMEN:  JP Duminy 13(12), Dane Vilas 0(0) | Faf du Plessis follows the first five batsmen. I would say that was a horrible shot. He played for a turn, went for a big shot and it didn’t turn. Jadeja cleans up his Chennai Super Kings’ teammate. OUT! Faf du Plessis b Ravindra Jadeja 10 (20) Live Cricket Score: South Africa 28/5 | Overs 15 | Trail by 187 runs | BATSMEN:  Faf du Plessis 5(10), JP Duminy 11(10) | Duminy counter-attacks. He is looking confident. Steps down and lofts Jadeja’s fifth ball over long-on for a huge six. Here’s how the wickets fell this morning

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 17/5 | Overs 13 | Trail by 198 runs | BATSMEN:  Faf du Plessis 4(6), JP Duminy 1(2) | Here goes the big one. Ravindra Jadeja’s third ball sees AB de Villiers walking back. AB gets back and looks to play on the leg side, the ball stops and turns big, getting AB’s leading edge as it lobs to Jadeja. SA struggling big time as AB departs for a duck. OUT! AB de Villiers c & b Ravindra Jadeja 0 (6)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 12/4 | Overs 12 | Trail by 203 runs | BATSMEN: AB de Villiers 0(5), Faf du Plessis 0 (3) | Amla walks. He is out. Goes for a sweep, the ball hits his arm, then bat, bounces off Saha’s shoulder and lobs to Rahane at first slip. OUT! Hashim Amla c Ajinkya Rahane b Ravichandran Ashwin 1 (10)

Live Cricket Score: South Africa 11/3 | Overs 10 | Trail by 204 runs | BATSMEN: Hashim Alma 0(5), AB de Villiers 0(1) | The first four balls from Ravichandran Ashwin spins sharply and the last one is a carrom ball that comes in. Elgar edges that one to the stumps. Early wicket for India and South Africa in all sorts of trouble. OUT! Dean Elgar b Ravichandran Ashwin 7 (35)
