Another comprehensive win for Bailey’s boys. Though Amla and Levi got the Cobras off to a flier, Punjab took pace off the ball and put the breaks on the scoring rate. Akshar Patel and Anureet Singh bagged three wickets each and was backed up very well by Karanveer Singh. Chasing 136, Vohra and Sehwag started off in a positive manner but threw away their starts. But a professional performance by Wriddhiman Saha saw the team through.

13 runs from the Engelbrecht over. Just 1 run needed.

KXIP need 14 runs from 18 balls.

22 runs required from 24 balls by KXIP. After wonderful wicket-keeping, Saha doing well with bat as well.

27 runs required from 30 balls by KXIP.

Engelbrecht to Maxwell, OUT! “Yes” is the roar! Maxi goes for the wrong shot after exposing his stumps. This was slower, tossed up on off stump. He stepped away from it and goes for a cut, should’ve preferred a drive really. KXIP require 28 runs with 7 wickets and 36 balls remaining.
GJ Maxwell b Engelbrecht 23 (19)
KXIP requires 39 runs from 42 balls.
KXIP require 56 runs with 8 wickets and 54 balls remaining. Easy equation for them.

Peterson to Sehwag, OUT!! Loads of loop, and he drew the batsman to reach out as well. Sehwag is caught in the trap as he goes for a big hit and ends up offering an outside edge into the hands of point. Lovely dismissal. KXIP require 62 runs with 8 wickets and 60 balls remaining. Maiden over by Peterson.
V Sehwag c Kleinveldt b Peterson 23 (26)
Kings XI Punjab require another 62 runs with 8 wickets and 66 balls remaining.
Kings XI Punjab require another 70 runs with 8 wickets and 72 balls remaining.

KXIP 56/1 | Overs 7
V Sehwag 15 (18) W Saha 11 (9)

80 runs required from 13 overs.

93 runs required from 14 overs.
Peterson to Vohra, OUT!!, drops it short and Vohra has…. found deep midwicket! He had set himself up into a solid base, both feet apart and a baseball swing poised. But the timing was not there. Holes out on the boundary.
M Vohra c Engelbrecht b Peterson 23 (15)
99 more runs required by KXIP from 15 overs. Easy task for a powerpacked KXIP batting lineup. Unless something dramatic performance happens for the bowlers of the South African team.
109 runs required by KXIP from 16 overs. No Duminy, no Steyn and they even had Narine in the Ram Slam
No pressure on KXIP batsmen. 118 runs required from 17 overs. Looks like a early finish unless the Cobra bowlers take some quick wickets.
KXIP openers are on their course. 9 runs from Vernon Philander over.
The Cobras have squandered away a brisk start. The last 8 wickets fell for a paltry 30 runs. Take no credit away from the Punjab bowlers, who rallied round. Akshar’s flat darters and Karanveer’s loopy leggies turned the tide after 40s each from Levi and Amla. Anureet showcased his increasing proficiency in the death overs with figures of 3-12. The likes of Thisara and Maxi chipped in as well. Now they need early wickets to saty in this match.
Out Caught by W Saha!! Anureet Singh takes 3 wickets too. They were 105 for 2 in the 13th over. Hashim Amla was looking quite unstoppable. Richard Levi was getting those slogs across to midwicket to work. Cobras had looked set for 180-200. But they just fell away. First it was them being consumed by their need to accelerate. Then it was the spinners strangling them. And finally some canny plans between Akshar and Saha .
R Peterson c W Saha b Anureet Singh 2(4)
Out!! Caught by Vohra!! Dug in short on middle, Kleinveldt sets up for a pull, mishits it high over backward square leg off a top-edge. Vohra runs across and completes a smart catch. So, Kleinveldt perishes for a duck.
R Kleinveldt c Vohra b Anureet Singh 0(4)
Patel to Philander, OUT~! pushed down leg again and Saha’s gone for an appeal! It’s not been called a wide, because it’s hit the thigh pad. Philander’s was overbalancing as well. His foot had come up and at the exact time the wicketkeeper has flicked the bails off. This is so a plan! What a spell for Patel. 4 overs, no maidens, 15 runs and 3 wickets.
Philander st W Saha b A Patel 5(3)
Wide, OUT!! Stumped!! Sharp work from Saha. The Cobras have lost venom after a brisk start. Seeing Kemp skip out, Patel hurls it down leg. Kemp can’t adjust and lay bat onto it, neither can he get back to the safely of his crease. An alert Saha gathers the wide and whips the bails off.
J Kemp st W Saha b A Patel 2(4)
Now Anureet Singh takes a wicket. Cobras losing the plot thick and fast. Searing yorker on middle sends back van Zyl! Has to go for 13 from 17. Couldn’t do much about that though as Anureet shows off his skills at hitting the target again.
S van Zyl b Anureet Singh 13 (17)
Patel to Engelbrecht, OUT! Bowled him. Reverse sweep peeped out a little too soon! Allowed Akshar that extra microsecond as he lunged his front leg across and shaped for the shot. Akshar pushed the ball quicker and fuller on leg stump to sneak under his swing and hit his target. Kemp is the new man.
Engelbrecht b A Patel 5(5)
Awana to Vilas, OUT, one hit too much from Vilas! The length was dragged short and Vilas going for a pull means he has to drag it from outside off. There is bad clunk off the bat as the ball lobs up into the air,and lands safely in the hands of long-on. They’re fumbling away the foundation they’ve set here. Engelbrecht is the new man in.
D Vilas c Perera b Awana 10 (6)

Karanveer Singh completes his quota of 4 overs. He gave only 23 runs and took the important wicket of Amla. Good day at the office fro him.

Maxwell to Levi, OUT! Caught&Bowled!! Levi can’t believe it. Superb reflexes from Maxi, who beams like a cheshire cat. Flatter and shorter outside off, Levi drills it right back at the bowler. And it sticks into Maxi’s hands. Let me tell you, it was travelling at the rate of knots.
R Levi c and b Maxwell 42(37)

Good over by Karanveer Singh. he has now bowl 3 overs and gave way only 16 runs and took one wicket. WIth eight overs to go, Cobras will be looking for a score around 190.

Now another spinner into the attack. Eight runs from the first Maxwell over. Good attacking start from van Zyl.

Stiaan van Zyl, who began opening for the Cobras in this tournament, is in at No. 4 .

Perera to Ramela, OUT, he’s succumbed to his own momentum again! He was on a spree against Tridents as well until he couldn’t stop himself. Targets a fuller ball for more than it deserves and his loft is mistimed, carries only as far as mid-off .
O Ramela c Miller b Perera 12 (9)

10 runs from the Karanveer Singh over.

Good comeback by KXIP bowlers. 7 runs have came from the last three overs.

Karanveer Singh has become the wicket taker for KXIP. Whenever they need a wicket, Bailey gives the bowl to him and most of the time he delivers.

Karanveer Singh to Amla, OUT!! Mohali are up and the Kings XI song blares out as Amla holes out at long-off! He was on a roll, especially through the off side. But this time Karanveer’s slower pace and loop made him reach out a little too much, even if he had danced down the track. That affected his timing. Got too much height on it and Miller holds it easily.
H Amla c Miller b Karanveer Singh 40 (22)

Excellent over by Akshar Patel. Just one run from the sixth over.

What an over!! Hashim Amla hit Thisara Perera for five consecutive boundaries. Cobras have raced away to 58 in five overs and Amla is batting on 40 off 18 balls.

Seems like Amla and Levi are on a mission.

Spin for the first time. Akshar Patel bowled with the new for KXIP as usual. 7 runs from his first over.

Parvinder Awana bowled the second over. Bit disappointing from him. 13 runs came from this over. Cape Cobras’s opening pair, specially Levi makes good start of the innings.

Anureet Singh took the new ball as usual and bowled a good first over. Only four runs from the first over.

Dane Vilas is captaining Cobras today as he did in the latter stages against Barbados Tridents because of Justin Ontong’s injury. Stiaan van Zyl takes his place.

Kings XI Punjab have won the toss and have elected to field first.

Kings XI Punjab face Cape Cobras in their last game of the group phase of the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014 at Mohali. It may be a dead game for Punjab as they are through to the next round, but the Cobras have all to play for. They are currently on the third spot in the points table, behind Hobart Hurricanes. They need a victory to have a chance of going through, so that they can put some pressure on Hobart. But, this Punjab side is in rampaging form and stopping them would be a tough task.

Cobras have a quality unit and are coming off a thrilling victory over Barbados Tridents. With Charl Langeveldt in the side, they have a classy fast-bowler for the limited-overs formats. And, with Robin Peterson in their ranks, they have a good all-round option to do the job for them. Vernon Philander is of course their main bowler and brings that additional threat to the table. Justin Kemp also doles out crucial overs and that adds balance to the side. And, now they have found Sybrandt Engelbrecht, who can bowl overs under pressure. Remember, he has come in as a replacement for JP Duminy. Hi, I am Sandipan Banerjee and I will bring you live updates of the match.

Squads:

Kings XI Punjab: George Bailey (c) , Virender Sehwag, David Miller, Glenn Maxwell , Akshar Patel, Mitchell Johnson, Manan Vohra, Mandeep Singh, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Karanveer Singh, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Thisara Perera, Rishi Dhawan, Anureet Singh, Parvinder Awana.
