Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack, and starts off with 2 consecutive dot balls. But, ten Doeschate doesn’t allow the dot balls to continue. He hits one right from the middle of his bat for a SIX! Brings up his FIFTY too with that shot. But, oh geez! Pat Cummins is run-out the next ball. It’s too little and too late for CSK as Piyush Chawla comes in and hits a boundary straightaway to clinch a superb victory! Not many would have given KKR a chance when Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed and they were 51/5 in 8 overs. But, they pulled off a miracle!
OUT! Pat Cummins run out Dhoni 8 (8)
Dwayne Bravo is called on to bowl the 18th for CSK. KKR need just singles here, and they take a superb double. Both batsman running between the wickets, as if their life depends on it. No boundaries but still 8 from it.
Nehra who has been the wrecker-in-chief for CSK, comes in to bowl. And he too is dispatched for a boundary! Unbelievable partnership this. This is what makes T20 cricket so special! Lots of discussion between Nehra and Dhoni. The discussion bears fruit as Nehra bowls a yorker that castles Russell. Great comeback by CSK. But, oh dear! Nehra and Dhoni throw the advantage away. A wide runs away for a boundary. Despite the crucial wicket of Russell, this has been an expensive over. 14 from it. 18 required from 18.
OUT! Andre Russell b Nehra 58 (25)
Mohit Sharma comes in to bowl the 16th over. He bowls a great first ball! Russell swings and misses it. He hits the second ball hard into the hands of Sharma, but the fast bowler isn’t able to hold on to it. Mohit seems to be rattled by that, as he is hit for TWO CONSECUTIVE SIXES by Russell. FIFTY FOR HIM! Russell goes again on the last ball, but the ball falls just short for a FOUR! 32 from 24. Pressure on CSK now. Dhoni has to pull something magical.
Dwayne Bravo returns and he doesn’t let the two batsman get away. Both batsman are running between the wickets with intensity, and have strung together a superb partnership. KKR were reeling at 51/5 at the end of 9 overs, but these 2 have given themselves a chance to win. CSK need a wicket. 50 from 30 required.
Ashwin returns and ten Doeschate isn’t able to get him away. Pressure was building on KKR, when Russell clobbered one for a six. Raina almost pulls off a blinder of catch there. He catches it but falls over the boundary line. 12 from that over. 58 from 36 required! This is very much doable.
Dwayne Bravo who was good with the bat (except in the final over) comes in to the attack. And both batsman try hard to hit him for a boundary, but fail in their endeavor. The required run rate is still within control, but KKR can’t afford to lose any more wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin comes in to the attack for CSK, and Ryan Ten Doeschate hits him for a six! The charge is on from these two batsman. But, it’s a good over otherwise for CSK. Just 6 from it.
Jadeja, who rushes through his overs, extremely quickly comes in to bowl again. Russell decides to take him on and hits him for a SIX and a FOUR and a SIX! 17 runs from that over. Win seems unlikely for KKR, but stranger things have happened in T20 cricket.
Russell isn’t looking to conserve his wicket even in such a situation and is going for the big shots. His strategy pays off in this over, as he hits a FOUR off the fifth ball. That was edged, but went past the slip to the boundary.
Jadeja comes into the attack and ten Doeschate late-cuts one to the boundary! He is one man who can be really dangerous, and 2-3 great overs from him can really change things around! However, he’ll have to do it without Suryakumar Yadav as Yadav hits one straight into the hands of Ashwin. Jadeja has struck!
OUT! Suryakumar Yadav c Ashwin b Jadeja 19 (17)
Pandey returns to ball his third, and is smashed for a HUGE SIX by Suryakumar Yadav. Finally, something for the KKR fans to cheer. But, they need much more of this to even come close to victory.
Both batsman now face an extremely uphill battle and singles won’t hurt CSK at this moment. Mohit Sharma bowls a tidy seventh over that goes for just 4 runs. The Required run rate creeping up to nearly 10 an over now.
Ishwar Pandey to bowl the final over of power play. And KKR get a much needed boundary off him. Still, not a bad over for CSK. 5 runs from it. KKR are reeling and they have only themselves to blame.
Nehra returns to bowl his third over, and he gets one again! Bisla chips one straight into the hands of Nehra, The 35-year-old is turning back the clock.
OUT! Manvinder Bisla c Ashwin b Nehra 2 (11)
Got him! Yusuf Pathan edges one to du Plessis at second slip. Mohit Sharma makes the breakthrough. KKR collapsing like a pack of cards here. Ryan ten Doeschate comes in, and starts off with a boundary! The Dutch batsman will need to do something special to win it from here for KKR. Ishwar Pandey helps him by missing a simple ball and letting it get away for a four!
OUT! Yusuf Pathan c du Plessis b Mohit 1 (5)
Captain Gambhir is gone! 35-year-old Ashish Nehra makes the breakthrough! Manish Pandey comes in to bat, and he doesn’t have to do much work today. He is gone for a duck first ball. Nehra – of all people – gets on a hat-trick, and he’ll need to take the wicket of Yusuf Pathan to take it. But, alas for CSK, it isn’t to be. It’s a great over for them though. 1 run and 2 wickets. 158 looks like a steep target suddenly.
OUT! Gautam Gambhir c Bravo b Nehra 6 (5)/ OUT! Manish Pandey c Sharma b Nehra 0 (1)
Ishwar Pandey bowls the second over, and he almost gets the wicket of Manvinder Bisla as Bisla hits one in to the air, but the ball just drops short of the fielder at mid-off. Gambhir gives KKR a good comeback by hitting a four in the fifth ball. He has already made a better start to the tournament than he did in IPL.

Ashish Nehra opens the bowling for CSK and he does well. Just 3 off it. Spinners did well for KKR, and CSK have plenty of them! Jadeja, Ashwin and Raina certainly won’t make it easy for the KKR batsman.
Umesh Yadav to bowl the last over! He has been extremely expensive so far. And he is dispatched for a four first ball. But, he comes back well and concedes just 2 runs in the next four balls. However, Dhoni faces the last ball, and he clobbers it for a HUGE SIX! That went into the fifth tier. CSK end with a bang, but KKR can still chase it down comfortably if they bat well.
Gambhir sticks to Cummins to bowl the last over, and it almost pays off! Dhoni hits one high into the air first ball, but it falls in no man’s land. Dhoni doesn’t make the same mistake twice, and dispatches a short one outside the fence for a SIX! Some great power behind that hit. Cummins comes back well, and bowls a dot ball in the fifth delivery.
Narine comes back to bowl his final over. Can he dismiss one of them? He doesn’t but it’s still a great over from Narine. Just 1 run from that over!
Pat Cummins comes in to the attack and concedes 5 runs straightaway! A huge wide misses Bisla and the ball goes past the fence. He comes back well and bowled a tight one that made Bravo struggle, but the comeback was short-lived. Bravo dispatched him for a BIG SIX in the second ball. He doesn’t stop there, and hits a ball that just misses Andre Russel at the boundary and goes for SIX AGAIN. 21 from the over!
Sunil Narine comes back into the attack, and Bravo struggles to pick him up. What an over by the West Indian. Just 3 runs from it. CSK need to start accelerating now.
Andre Russell comes in to the attack for the first time in the match. And he is hit for a boundary second ball by MSD. A short ball in the fifth delivery too is dispatched outside the fence. KKR are certainly missing an extra spinner in Shakib al Hasan. 12 from that over.
Umesh Yadav, who was expensive in his previous two overs, comes back in to the attack. This one is no different! Bravo dispatches his second ball beyond the boundary line. The fifth ball receives the same treatment. 9 from that over. Both these batsman can still get CSK to an imposing total.
Piyush Chawla comes back to bowl his third. And he almost gets one! Du Plessis comes down the track and misses! Bisla dislodges the bails, and the umpire decides to review. It’s a close call, and umpire decides to give it OUT! Chawla takes his second, and this is a massive blow for CSK. Dwayne Bravo comes in. Dhoni had said that he added strength, stability and balance to the side. Let’s see what he does today.
OUT! Faf du Plessis st Bisla b Chawla 14 (16)
Sunil Narine comes back into the attack and he does it again for KKR! Raina is OUT LBW! But, oh wait! Is there a twist here? The umpire decides to review it, as Narine may have over-stepped. Fortunately for him, the umpire doesn’t overturn the decision. Captain Dhoni walks in to a huge reception from the crowd. Nothing unusual for him.
OUT! Suresh Raina lbw b Narine 28 (24)
Yusuf Pathan bowls his third over and it’s a good one for KKR. Just 4 from it. Not usual to bowl so many over for him, but he is doing more than a decent job here. Both batsman should now look to accelerate any moment as CSK bat deep.
Piyush Chawla who took the first wicket, is back into the attack and he starts off with a wide. Both du Plessis and Raina happy to knock it around for singles, and they take a double off the 5th ball, displaying superb running between the wickets. Gambhir needs to put his thinking cap again.

Pathan is back in the attack! These two batsman are now looking settled and taking singles with ease. Six singles off the six balls! Good comeback by CSK after the departure of the two openers.
Umesh Yadav comes back, and his second over isn’t better than his first! Raina hits TWO CONSECUTIVE BOUNDARIES! He is a very dangerous batsman and Gambhir has to find a way to send him back without letting him do much damage. This game has such a lovely ebb-and-flow to it. T20 cricket at its best.
Gambhir decides to hold back Narine for later, and brings in Yusuf Pathan. And it turns out to be a great move! Brendon McCullum has got to go! He is trapped LBW. This pitch seems to be helping spinners. Faf du Plessis who had an extraordinary series in Zimbabwe recently comes in and hits a boundary on the second ball he faces!
OUT! Brendon McCullum lbw b Pathan 22 (19)
Chawla returns to bowl his second over! Spin from both ends. Raina is looking aggressive, and the CSK team don’t look rattled at all by Smith’s dismissal. He gets a boundary with the help of a big shot. He’d have been caught if there was a long on. 7 from that over. This should be an exciting encounter.
Sunil Narine comes into the attack and he almost sends Suresh Raina back to the pavilion first ball! Huge appeal but umpire says no. Raina comes down the track next ball, but only manages a single. Great comeback by KKR. Just 3 of it.
Piyush Chawla comes into the attack! And he gets the same treatment. Welcomed with TWO CONSECUTIVE BOUNDARIES straightaway. But, Chawla comes back well and Smith is gone! Gambhir’s tactics does the trick again.
OUT! Dwayne Smith c Bisla b Chawla 20 (13)
Ooof! Dwayne Smith clobbers one! Pat Cummins gets the treatment this time. Both batsman are piercing the mid field with ease. Gautam Gambhir needs to try something innovative here.
Umesh Yadav comes into the attack and tries to pitch it short to Dwayne Smith. He gets the treatment and is dispatched for a boundary first ball. McCullum too makes merry in the over, by hitting a boundary off Smith. Great over for CSK. 10 from it.
Pat Cummins opens the attack for KKR. This is promising to be an exciting affair. Both McCullum and Smith are big hitters who can tear any bowling attack apart. And oh dear! Yusuf Pathan DROPS ONE. Dwayne Smith was almost gone! It was a high catch, but they need to be taken at this level. McCullum comes in and hits a smooth four. 5 from the first over.

Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the inaugural match of the Champions League T20 2014 (CLT20) between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Raipur on Tuesday. I am Sameer Jha and I will be bringing the live updates of the match.
It will be a clash of the titans as these two teams take on each other in the opening match of the CLT20 2014 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday. Both the teams have enough fire power to make it an intense face off. The reigning champions, KKR will look to replicate what CSK and Mumbai Indians did to win this tournament earlier. On the other hand, CSK fell short before the IPL 2014 finals to the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), so they will like to make a winning start to this tournament and live upto their value.
Kolkata may miss the services of Morne Morkel, but the presence of Pat Cummins and an in-form Umesh Yadav should be enough to fill in the void. In the spin department, Sunil Narine is the leading spinner for KKR and this gives them an edge over their opponents. KKR have vast resources to choose a best playing XI as a strong Indian contingent that includes R Vinay Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav presenting plenty of options.
Up against them are the dangerous CSK, who according to their captain MS Dhoni will be a side to watch out for as its players have had ideal build-ups to the tournament and they will be boosted with the return of Dwayne Bravo. CSK have always been among the stronger sides in CLT20 and KKR will have to be wary of the firepower that their opponents have in their ranks.
