Australia ended Day One in command as they managed to bowl New Zealand out for 183 in their first innings and managed to score 147 for the loss of three wickets, which means they trail by 36 runs with seven wickets in hand. Australian bowlers were dominant right from the beginning. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 4 for 42. Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon chipped in with three wickets apiece to ensure that Australia bundled New Zealand out for well under 200. They are already 373 runs now, Australia probabaly aiming to reach 400 runs and declare after that. New Zealand are finding it difficult to stop Voges and Nevill to score more runs on board. They are going for a boundary in every over. Mark Craig bowled a brilliant maiden over in 108th over.

Peter Nevill is equally contributing his best in terms of the runs. Australia are already leading in this first Test and New Zealand require a breakthrough once again after Khawaja was sent off. Khawaja has gone past the 1,000-run mark in Tests and is looking set to get a huge score in this innings as well. This partnership has gone past 150.

New Zealand will hope to make a breakthrough in the next half hour or so and claw themselves back into the match.
Brendon McCullum in his 100th Test received a standing ovation from everyone at the stadium when he walked out to bat, but sadly, he was dismissed for a seven-ball duck. Nevertheless, he made history as he became the only cricketer to play 100 continuous Tests since debut. He also became only the third New Zealand player to play 100 Tests after Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori.
New Zealand started off well as Tim Southee managed to get rid of the openers David Warner and Joe Burns early. Usman Khawaja and skipper Steven Smith began the rescuing act as they put on 126 runs for the third wicket to bring Australia back into the game. Smih was dismissed for 71, but Khawaja is still batting on 57 and he looks set to get a big score. New Zealand will hope that they can stop the run flow and restrict Australia to a modest score.
