Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the fourth One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and New Zealand at Abhu Dhabi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to go ahead with Wednesday’s match despite calls to postpone it for a day after the carnage in Peshawar. Catch all the live updates of the match here. Read Preview of the match here.

Pakistan and New Zealand will clash for the fourth time of the ongoing five-match One-Day International (ODI) series at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The hosts are currently leading the series 2-1 and will look to seal it with one match to go. New Zealand on the other hand, will look to get their team combination right and win the game to keep the series alive.

The series has been quite fascinating so far. Especially the first two matches were very competitive. After losing the first match narrowly the Kiwis came back strongly with a clinical victory in the second ODI. But in the third ODI under the leadership of Shahid Afridi, Pakistan were all over New Zealand. They won the contest by a huge margin of 147 runs in a one-sided encounter. They would like to continue this momentum at Abu Dhabi as well. Pakistan are likely to field an unchanged side for this game.

For New Zealand, problems are plenty. As a skipper Kane Williamson has a tough luck so far in the series. The first thing he needs to do is to stop experimenting and play the best possible side for the match. They missed the left-arm spin of Daniel Vettori badly and it is expected that he will be back in the playing eleven at Abu Dhabi. Apart from him, the experienced Kyle Mills is also likely to make a comeback.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson wins the toss and opt to bat first.

Teams:

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Dean Brownlie, Kane Williamson(c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi(wk), Daniel Vettori, Adam Milne, Matt Henry, Mitchell McClenaghan

Pakistan:  Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Haris Sohail, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Shahid Afridi (c), Anwar Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Irfan

Very good start by New Zealand. They bring up 50 in the 10th over with both the openers going strong. Dean Brownile is batting on run-a-ball 31 and is being given good support at the other end by Martin Guptill who’s batting on 20. Pakistan bowlers have found it tough to bowl to the batsmen so far. New Zealand have a strong batting line-up with Kane Williamsin and Ross Taylor still to bat.

Out! First wicket for Pakistan. Shahid Afridi gets the break through. Dean Brownlie, who was batting well, is caught at short midwicket! a soft dismissal for Brownlie as he went back back to a shortish ball and whipped it. Only he forgot to keep it down and Akmal dive forward and to his right to cling on to a good catch. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is at the wicket now.
OUT!D Brownlie c Umar Akmal b Shahid Afridi 42 (48)

Martin Guptil is gone after playing a handy knock of 58. Sohail Tanvir has got the wicket. Not enough room for the slice behind point and Guptill has to walk back. Good bowling from Tanvir though as he hit a good length and pushed the ball across. The batsman tried to do too much with it and pays for his greed. A disappointed Guptill has gone back to dressing room.In comes Ross Taylor.
M Guptill c Sarfraz Ahmed b Sohail Tanvir 58 (78)

Kane Williamson is now the highest score for New Zealand all time in calendar year, across all formats. New Zealand looking good for a score in excess of 280. The current partnership is on 49 off 66 balls.

Out! Taylor goes just after Williamson gets his half-century. Taylor was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed!! Edged and taken! Taylor loses balance while reaching out to drive this widish full ball and gets a thick edge, which if easily take by the keeper. Taylor was stuck in the crease and he had to pay a heavy fine.
OUT! R Taylor c Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Irfan 26 (37)

Out! Another wicket gone. Anwar Ali takes the wicket of dangerous looking Corey Anderson, taken at long-on! It was overpitched enough for him to go through with the loft down the ground, but it almost seemed like he’d checked the stroke. Only managed to pick out Akmal.
OUT! C Anderson c U Akmal b Anwar Ali 23(20)

New Zealand finish with a good total. They have scored 91 in the last 10 overs and their total looks quite substantial. Kane Williamson has been saying they were looking forward to play the kind of cricket they knew they could and the batting line-up has stepped up. Good partnerships down the order and one man standing firm and staying not out at the end. Orthodox strokeplay, a good knowledge of the field and pretty sharp footwork has helped the New Zealand captain give his bowlers a total they can feel good about defending. But Abu Dhabi has been very easy-paced and Pakistan bat deep. Pakistan needs to bat well to chase this total.
K Williamson b Mohammad Irfan 123 (105)

What a start for New Zealand! Henry takes Ahmed Shehzad’w important wicket. What a ball from Henry! A fuller length delivery swinging away a touch from middle and off, Shehzad leans forward and looks to defend, but misses, the ball goes past the outside edge of the bat and uproots the off-stump. That was brilliantly set up by Henry.
Ahmed Shehzad b Matt Henry 0(2)

Out! Second wicket gone. Pakistan is in trouble. Good come back by Corey Anderson. This was a slower off-cutter from just outside off, Jamshed leans forward and looks to flick, but misses and is hit dead in front of middle and off, easiest of the decisions for the umpire. Jamshed throws away his start.
OUT! Jamshed lbw b Corey Anderson 30(46)

Out! Hafeez is caught by Ronchi! What a start for Vettori! Nothing but a flatter delivery from Vettori, Hafeez should have been forward to that ball. Instead he feels for the ball without moving his feet and nicks off. That was a sharp catch by the keeper as well. Pakistan are in a spot of bother now.
OUT! Hafeez c Ronchi b Vettori 3(11)

Out! Another one bites the dust. Sohail is caught by Latham!! Second wicket for Vettori. Flighted delivery from Vettori, Sohail advances and tries to muscle it down the ground, but gets it from the bottom of the bat. Long-off runs forward and takes a very good catch. This is the first time Sohail has not managed to get a start in the series.
OUT! H Sohail c Latham b Vettori 13(25)

Pakistan are still in the game. Younis Khan and Umar Akmal put up fifty-run partnership. Meanwhile Younis Khan reaches his 49th One-Day International (ODI) fifty. Pakistan require another 146 runs in remaining 16 overs.

Shahid Afridi is playing a blinder for Pakistan. They need 89 in last 10 overs. Younis on the other hand playing sensibly. Since Umar Akmal was run out, Pakistan have made good progress. They should finish the job from here.
U Akmal run out (McClenaghan) 29(37)

Younis Khan reached his seventh One-Day International (ODI) hundred. But they lost Afridi’s wicket at a vital time. Sarfraz Ahmed came to the wicket and started aggressively. Pakistan need 52 of last 36 balls.
OUT! S Afridi c Ronchi b Milne 49(25)

Two quick wickets put New Zealand the hot favourits to win the game from here. First Younis than Sarfraz, two big wickets hurt Pakistan’s chances. Pakistan require another 39 runs with 2 wickets and 23 balls remaining. Tough ask for them now.
Sarfraz Ahmed c Ronchi b McClenaghan 18(13), Younis Khan b Vettori 103(117)

280/8 Pakistan need 20 from 9 Balls With 2 Wickets in hand.

After 49, Pakistan 284/8. In the last over they require 16 runs. Mat Henry to bowl it.

Pakistan need 16 off 5 balls.

Pakistan need 12 off 4 balls.

Pakistan need 11 from 3 balls.

Pakistan now need 9 off 2 balls.

Swing and miss. It seems its all over for Pakistan. They need 9 off 1.

New Zealand come back strongly after the huge defeat in the 3rd ODI. They have won the 4th ODI by 7 runs and draw level in the five match ODI series 2-2 with one more match to go. What a series this has been!
