Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. I am Sakshi Gupta and I will be bringing you all the updates from Day 1. Sri Lanka are currently going through a transition phase and are yet to cope after the retirements of legends like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. They were crushed by England in their previous series and also lost to India at home. They however beat a depleted West Indies side, last time they played on home soil. Ranked No. 1 in the world, Australia have a much settled side and with Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan in the backroom staff to help their bowlers, they will certainly be a threat in the series. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs Australia, 1st Test at Pallekele

Australia have been dominant in Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI) under the leadership of Steven Smith. They recently won the tri-series in the Caribbean and also secured home and away Test series wins against West Indies. They also have beaten New Zealand, both home and away. Playing in sub continental conditions will be a totally different ball game for Australia. It is most likely that they will play two spinners in the series. Sri Lanka vs Australia 2016, 1st Test at Pallekele: Preview

Nathan Lyon is the first-choice spinner in Tests. He might be supported by Steve O’Keefe, who is a left-arm orthodox bowler.  Sri Lanka have quite a few new faces in the team. It will be interesting to see as to who gets a debut in this game.
