After a humiliating defeat in the One-day International (ODI) series, India will now face South Africa in the two-match Test series, starting today in Johannesburg. Having lost the ODIs by a huge margin, this is India’s chance to silence their critics. This will be India’s first Test match in the post-Tendulkar era. The new look Indian side will be eager to prove a point or two, on South African soil. The Indian batsmen, especially, will be looking to occupy the crease for longer durations and cope with the pace and bounce of Dale steyn and co. on the Johannesburg and Durban tracks. This is the first tour of South Africa, as a part of the Test team, for the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

India’s bowling attack will gain confidence from the fact that Zaheer Khan is making a comeback to the Test line-up. He will be spearheading India’s bowling attack, which will most likely comprise of Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Zaheer will also act as the needed mentor to these young bowlers, who have very little overseas experience.

For No 2 side in the world, India, it will be a very important series as they take on the world No 1. Coach Duncan Fletcher will be well aware of the series’s importance in India’s development as a Test team, as this is their first overseas Test series after the 0-8 drubbing in the hands of England and Australia.
