On a rain curtailed day, India lost their overnight batsmen, Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara in quick succession. Rohit Sharma offered no stroke to an incoming delivery from Steyn to see his middle-stump being uprooted. Vijay missed reaching his first century, while playing away from home, by a mere three runs. He made 97. Virat Kohli tried to resurrect the innings but was caught down the leg-side by AB De Villiers of Morne Morkel’s bowling.  Rest of the Indian batsmen, except Ajinkya Rahane didn’t last long and were bowled out for 334.

On the other hand, South Africa made a great start to their innings and by the close of the day’s play had reached 82 for no loss.
