Former Pakistani bowler and United Arab Emirates (UAE) coach Aaqib Javed has raised doubts over the suitability of batting legend Zaheer Abbas as a batting consultant for the team.

Javed represented Pakistan on 185 occasions, taking over 230 wickets in a ten-year playing career and he left his role as Pakistan bowling coach to take over as head coach of the UAE team in March 2012, experiencing significant success after seeing his side qualify for three World Cups.

According to www.PakPassion.net, although he backed the Pakistan Cricket Board‘s (PCB) decision to appoint former wicketkeeper Moin Khan as the head coach, however, he expressed doubts over the appointment of Abbas as a batting consultant.

Stating that Khan can put Pakistan on the right track, Javed however, said that he does not believe Abbas will be much use as a batting consultant at his age as it is necessary to have energy to work with players at the net, adding that in the current generation, fitness is very important as coach.

Javed also said that the new trend of coaching is working closely and directly with the players and is physically demanding, adding that there are a lot of throw-downs and a lot of bowling required too.
