The South African needed 18 runs before the start of the innings to reach the 3,000-run mark. He has played in 48 T20 Internationals and scored 849 runs at an average of 22.34. He was run-out soon after.
He became the 38th player to reach the milestone in his 139th game in the format. He has only one century (105 not out) in the format which was scored against Chennai Super Kings for Delhi Daredevils at Centurion in 2009.
