In Match 14 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016, Barbados Tridents (BT) have posted a healthy total of 180 for 6 in their quota of 20 overs against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (STKNP). On winning the toss, Faf du Plessis asked Barbados Tridents skipper, Kieron Pollard and his side to bat first. St Kitts got off to a good start but Barbados Tridents recovered from early hiccups to post a challenging total on the board, thanks to AB de Villiers gritty 82 and Pollard’s entertaining cameo. AB de Villiers thrashed St Kitts bowling, he struck nine fours and three sixes in his innings to help Barbados Tridents post a fighting total. Read: Hashim Amla, Dwayne Bravo broke 9-year-old record in CPL 2016

This is also the 100th match in the history of CPL and a very important match for both the teams involved. While the home team is in the fourth position in the points table with one win, one loss and one match being abandoned due to rain, STKNP have their task cut out as they have lost four of their five matches this season and have to pull up their socks from now on to remain alive in the tournament.

STKNP have a task in hand as their bowlers have leaked way too many runs on the field and were also not supported by their fielders as they dropped a few chances, especially to give a reprieve to a batsman like de Villiers. The South African batsman’s fifty kept the hosts in the game and have taken them to a competitive total against STKNP. Faf du Plessis will depend on his openers to get his team a good start as they require 9 runs per over.

Brief Scores:

Barbados Tridents 180 for 6 in 20 overs (AB de Villiers 82, Nicholas Pooran 38; Sheldon Cortell 3 for 25, Alzam Joseph 1 for 30) vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriot
