AB de Villiers who scored an unbeaten 89 to lead South Africa to a victory in the first One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand said that he loved finishing games for his team. The No 1 ranked batsman did full justice to his ranking, and played a superb knock full of fluent strokeplay.
“What gets me going is finishing games for the team. Being there at the end, there is nothing more rewarding than that. When you talk about stats and milestones at the end of a career; that is something that I will look back on.”, he was quoted as saying by sport24.co.za.
“I’m very happy with this performance. It’s a great start to what is a tough tour with three ODIs here and five in Australia. To start off well always helps a little bit. I have mixed feelings about the first half of the game,” he admitted. “I thought we got ourselves into a strong position to finish them off. Other than that it was a great bowling performance. Getting a team nine down after 35 overs, with your two best bowlers with the ball in hand; they will be disappointed that they didn’t finish the job.”, he added.
