Aditya Verma, secretary-general of the unrecognised Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), is ready to fire another salvo at N Srinivasan. According to Verma, who is the petitioner in the IPL spot-fixing case being heard in the Supreme Court, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have signed are a deal which allows their respective anti-corruption units to work hand-in-hand over three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), including the ongoing one.

“We are going to plead before the apex court on Tuesday to stop Srinivasan from taking over as ICC chairman. The reason is simple: his role as BCCI president and Chennai Super Kings owner is under investigation. And if he is allowed to represent India at the ICC and take over as its chairman in July, then the ACSU (Anti-Corruption and Security Unit) will be under his command and he can use it to his own benefit,” Verma told dna on Sunday.

It must be mentioned here that ICC chief executive Dave Richardson had said last month that the anti-corruption units of the ICC and the BCCI were holding discussions. “Our office is in Dubai, so we have certain facilities which we will make available to the BCCI if they need them. Essentially though, our involvement would be on the anti-corruption side,” Richardson said during the ICC World Twenty20 in Dhaka.

A BCCI official also confirmed to dna that the board “was in touch with the ICC” before making the all-important decision to shift the IPL to the UAE. Verma went on: “Why did BCCI hide the fact that ICC’s ACSU had warned Gurunath Meiyappan over his illegal activities during IPL-6. In fact, there are audio transcripts of Gurunath telling his friend, Vindoo Dara Singh, to be “careful” as he was being warned by the ICC’s ACSU. And this statement has been recorded by the Mumbai Police crime branch.”

Verma also cited the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the appointment of PJ Thomas as central vigilance commissioner (CVC). “The institutional integrity and the integrity of a person must be impeccable. The court-appointed panel is all set to investigate the role of Srinivasan and 12 others named in that sealed envelope. If Srinivasan were to take over as ICC chairman, there is a very high chance that he will also control the ACSU,” said Verma.
