Bangladesh have recently showed interest in hosting Afghanistan for a One-Day International (ODI) series. Set to take place in mid-September, the number of matches and the dates have not been decided yet. However, reports suggest that the matches may be scheduled in Dhaka during the Eid holidays and probable dates fall around September 12. This will be the first time Afghanistan will play a bilateral series in Bangladesh. While a new experience for the visitors, the series is expected to be beneficial for the hosts as well, for they have been hungry for cricket due lack of play post the ICC World T20 2016. Talking to espncricinfo.com, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)’s media manager Aziz Gharwal revealed, “We are in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play the series next month but we are yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU]. We haven’t yet set dates for the matches but we will soon publish the dates on our website.”

Bangladesh will soon play England in a home series that includes three ODIs followed by two Tests. The series was under question following the terror attacks in Dhaka recently that took the lives of 20 hostages. England players were free to opt out of the series. However, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) decided to go ahead with the series.

Bangladesh, who have played good cricket since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2016, has not played any international matches since ICC WT20 and the upcoming two series are expected to bring them back into practice.
