Afghanistan earned their Test status in June last year. BCCI had announced last month that India would host Afghanistan’s maiden Test match. It has been confirmed that the match will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, between June 14 to 18 this year. Afghanistan board were made full members of ICC in June along with Ireland. They  became 11th and 12th nation to play Test. BCCI helps the Afghanistan in many ways, Afghanistan played Ireland at Greater NOIDA in March last year, their home ground.

Afghanistan have made remarkable progress since they achieved full ODI status in 2011. They failed to make it to the 2011 World Cup. However they made it to the 2015 World Cup, where they defeated Scotland by 1 wicket. They also defeated West Indies in the T20I World Cup 2016, who won the tournament.

While India play Afghanistan in June, Pakistan will play Ireland in May. Additionally, 13 Afghan players have registered themselves for the IPL auction which will be held in January 27 and 28.
