Umar Akmal and Anwar Ali stabilised Pakistan after they were down 119 for six against Afghanistan in the third Asia Cup match at Fatullah on Thursday. Pakistan are 171 for six after 41 overs. Akmal and Anwar have completed an unbeaten fifty-run stand.
Akmal was almost gone when he tried for a big heave on the leg-side in the 37th over off Shapoor Zadran and the ball went high in the air. Samiullah Shenwari from point failed to clearly come underneath the ball and spilled the catch.
Poor shots saw a flurry of wickets as Afghanistan looked set to run away with the match. Akmal and Anwar batted sensibly to put on valuable runs. They scored 22 runs off the batting powerplay taken from 35 to 40 overs. But more significantly they didn’t lose any wickets.
