Sri Lanka reached 199 or six after 45 overs in their Asia Cup Match 7 against Afghanistan at Mirpur on Monday. Angelo Mathews was batting on 16, accompanied by Thisara Perera on seven not out.

Chaturanga de Silva was caught by Mirwais Ashraf off Dawlat Zadran as Sri Lanka lost their sixth wicket in the 42nd overs. He scored 17 off 16 balls.

Afghanistan gained command as Kumar Sangakkara and Dinesh Chandimal fell in quick succession early on. Afghanistan spinner Hamza Hotak provided his side a crucial breakthrough as he got rid of Dinesh Chandimal, who added 74 runs with Kumar Sangakkara to revive Sri Lanka.

Chandimal got an inside edge off the left-arm spinner after score 26, which came from 41 balls, in the 37th over.

But in the next over, Sri Lanka were jolted with the big wicket of Sangakkara, who was run out for 76. Sri Lanka reached 160 for five after 38 overs.

Earlier, Mahela Jayawardene’s poor form continued as he was dismissed for 14 by Aghanistan bowler Mirwais Ashraf, who claimed his second wicket in their

Sri Lanka reached 88 for three from 23 overs and Kumar Sangakkara once again has the responsibility of bailing his side out of trouble. Jayawardene faced 14 balls to score as many runs, during which he hit two boundaries. He added 33 runs for the third wicket with Sangakkara.

Earlier, Kusak Perera, who batted well for his 33, studded with four boundaries and a six got an inside edge off Ashraf on the first ball of the 16th over.  The left-handed batsman, known for his identical batting style with Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya, played some attractive strokes during his stay at the crease.

Sri Lanka lost their first wicket in the sixth over, when Shapoor Zadran found a gap through the Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Thirimanne bat and pad to knock down his middle stump on the fourth ball of the sixth over in the match.

Perera hit a boundary on the penultimate ball of the fifth over off Najibullah Zadran to get into the groove. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat against Afghanistan in the seventh game of the tournament.
