Ajit Agarkar named new chairman of selection committee for Mumbai

Agarkar played First-Class cricket for Mumbai for 17 years, ending his career in the year 2013. He will now head the selection committee for senior and U-23 Mumbai teams.

Former India and Mumbai cricketer Ajit Agarkar was on Friday named the chairman of selection committee for Mumbai by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The wiry pacer, who represented the Indian team in 26 Tests, 191 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 4 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in an international career spanning for almost a decade, comes into the role with a wealth of experience. Agarkar played First-Class cricket for Mumbai for 17 years, ending his career in the year 2013. He will now head the selection committee for senior and U-23 Mumbai teams. Apart from Agargar, three other former players — Nilesh Kulkarni, Jatin Paranjape and Sunil More — will also be part of the senior selection committee.

The U-19 selection committee will have Rajesh Pawar as the chairman while Avishkar Salvi, Raju Sutar and Santosh Shinde will also be a part of the committee. Post retiring from the game, Agarkar had turned into a cricket analyst. In his new innings, he will be responsible for keeping a track of the talented players and selecting them to represent Mumbai in domestic cricket.

Agarkar made his ODI debut for India against Australia at Kochi in 1998. His entry to the international scene was impressive and soon in the same year, he made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in Harare. He went on pick up 349 international wickets across formats, which include 288 wickets in ODIs, 58 in Tests and 3 in ODIs.
