India’s left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been replaced by Akshar Patel for the last two Tests against Australia in Melbourne and Sydney. Jadeja, whose Test career has been excellent at home but poor overseas, could have been considered for selection in the final Test at the SCG, a ground that tends to be conductive to spinners.
The BCCI announced in a Tweet that Jadeja was injured and would therefore be replaced by Akhsar, who boasts a very similar skill-set. Like Jadeja, Akshar too is a hard-hitting lower-order batsman and left-arm spinner. However, Akshar has said in the past that he looks at himself more as a batting all-rounder than a bowling all-rounder.

India are currently trailing the four-match Test series 2-0, after losing the first match at Adelaide Oval by 48 runs, and the second game at The Gabba, Brisbane, by four wickets. Karn Sharma played the first Test, while Ravichandran Ashwin was selected for the second game.
According to AFP, Jadeja has a shoulder injury and will return home to undergo a rehabilitation programme, the board said in a statement. It remained unclear if Jadeja, who did not play in the first two Tests, will be available for the World Cup that opens in Australia and New Zealand on February 14.
