England captain Alastair Cook completed 8,000 runs in Test cricket on December 28, 2013 during the fourth Ashes 2013-14 Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The 29-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, became the sixth England batsman and 26th in the world to have achieved this feat.

Cook crossed the 8,000th-run mark with three runs off Peter Siddle’s bowling towards square on the leg side in the second innings of the fourth Test on Day Three.

Graham Gooch is at the top of the table with 8,900 from 118 matches. Cook is playing his 101st match.
