The Allahabad High Court issued a bailable warrant against the secretary of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) today for failing to appear before it in a matter related to renovation of the Green Park stadium in Kanpur.

The Lucknow bench of the court, comprising Justices Uma Nath Singh and Virendra Kumar Dixit, issued a notice to the BCCI asking its secretary to appear on January 15 along with the UPCA secretary.

The order came on a PIL by Satish Kumar Mishra seeking direction for maintenance of the stadium to match world class standards.

On December 20, the court had directed UP government to start renovation and maintenance of the stadium before January 10.

The court had also issued notice to the respondents — BCCI and UPCA — and fixed Jaunuary 10 as next date of hearing.

The court had also directed secretary sports of UP government and secretary UPCA to appear before it.

“On December 20, we had directed the appearance of secretary sports of the state and secretary UPCA. Secretary Sports Suresh Chandra is present in the court whereas Secretary UPCA has not come nor has any application been filed for exemption from personal appearance,” the court observed.

“Let a bailable warrant in the sum of Rs 20,000 issued against the secretary UPCA to be executed through the chief metropolitan magistrate Kanpur forthwith for his appearance in the court on January 15,” it said.

The bench said that it had also issued notice to the BCCI but it remained unrepresented.

“Secretary BCCI shall also remain present in the court on the said date. Let this order be served through chief metropolitan magistrate Mumbai for his appearance,” it directed.

“The Registrar shall ensure issuance of this order on Thursday itself,” it added.
