Allan Border, the former Australian captain, has joined Brisbane Heat ahead of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2014-15 as a mentor. Border teams up with Stuart Law, with whom he shared the dressing room at Queensland. Border is one of the most respected cricketers in the world and is credited for scripting Australia’s rise to the top.

Border was quoted by Cricket Australia’s official website, “I am very keen to be actively involved with a team again and hopefully I can help the coaching staff and the players nail some of the one-percenters that make the difference to a successful campaign. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play T20 in my career but as an administrator and a commentator I’ve seen the BBL grow from its inception to the success it was last season. The ability of T20 to attract new fans is very important for cricket and it has been brilliant to see so many mums and dads and kids coming along and enjoying themselves at the Heat games at the Gabba.”

Border has coached Australia’s A side and the age-group teams, but hasn’t yet coached a side at the senior level. This is a good opportunity for him to come in this zone of coaching. Border has donned many hats in cricket and the latest appointment is a new role for him.
