Amila Aponso, Angelo Mathews steer Sri Lanka to 82-run win over Australia in 2nd ODI

Sri Lanka registered an 82-run win over the visitors Australia, in the second of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, at Colombo.

Sri Lanka‘s new spin teenager Amila Aponso came up with a fascinating performance with the ball, as he claimed four wickets for just 18 runs, and allowed hosts Sri Lanka to register an 82-run win over the visitors Australia, in the second of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Also Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews, who earlier played an exquisite knock of 57, was also one of the pick of the players. As for Australia, Matthew Wade was the top scorer with 76 runs. Earlier, Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat first, as they posted a challenging total of 288, courtesy of three half-centuries form Kusal Mendis, Mathews and Kusal Perera, while Australia’s all-rounder James Faulkner claimed a hat-trick, and became the 40th bowler in ODI cricket to do so. The Australians were off to a horrible start, as with just three runs on the board, opener David Warner fell for a mere single to Thisara Perera in the second over, and was soon followed by his fellow opener Aaron Finch, after 13 more runs, as he fell for mere four to the same man in the fourth over. At the score of 41, it was the skipper Steven smith, who fell for a good 30 to Amila Aponso in the 10th over, followed by a 61-run stand between former skipper George Bailey and Wade, as at the score of 102, it was Bailey who departed for 27 in the 23rd over. Meanwhile, Wade brought up his 20th ODI half-century, while at the score of 118, it was Moises Henriques, who fell for mere four to Seekkuge Prasanna in the 28th over.

However, it was followed by a healthy 64-run stand between Wade and Travis Head, before Wade fell for a healthy 76 to Perera again, in the 40th over, followed by wicket of Travis Head, the over next, who fell for a fair 31 to Mathews, at the score of 184. Just a run later in the same over, Mitchell Starc was dismissed for an unfortunate duck, followed by Adam Zampa, who fell for mere five to Aponso in the 46th over, at the score of 202, while James Faulkner was the final man to be dismissed in the 48th over by the same man, as he scored just 13, while Sri Lanka won the ties by 82 runs, thus leveling the series.
