Islamabad United have received a huge blow as Andre Russell has been ruled out remainder of PSL 2018. Russell pulled his right hamstring during the match against Karachi Kings on Sunday while fielding at the long-off. Russell had returned to cricket after serving one-year ban.

As for the tournament, Russell holds 4 wickets and 82 runs to his name. He played an integral role in the match against Lahore Qalandars where he scored a last-ball six in a one-over eliminator.

An Islamabad United official gave an update on Russell’s injury to Geo Tv: “Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging. He will not take any further part in the tournament.” Islamabad United Physio Errol Alcott has suggested four-eight week time frame for return of the fast bowler hence in light of the recommendations it is obvious that Russell will miss the rest of the tournament.

Russell’s injury is also likely to affect Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)‘s team set-up as well. Russell could miss out playing initial games of IPL 2018.
