India posted 267 for 9 in the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Under-19 Cricket world Cup against Sri Lanka at Dhaka on Monday. India happened to reach this competitive total, courtesy of a responsible knock from Anmopreet Singh who came in one-down. It was his second appearance for India Under-19. The 17-year-old boy came in when India was under immense pressure and he went on to play a brilliant innings of 72 runs off 92 balls in a World Cup semi-final. He shared a partnership of worth 96 runs off 21 overs with Sarfaraz Khan for the 3rd wicket. The latter was however dismissed just after he brought up his 4th half-century of this tournament. LIVE SCORECARD: India vs Sri Lanka, semi-final-1 of ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup

Following Khan’s dismissal, Washington Sundar and Arman Jaffer played respective quick innings to add on to the total. Sundar and Anmolpreet built up a stand of 70 runs off 11.5 overs for the 4th over. Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka Under-19 with four wickets to his name out of the nine dismissals made. He made an early breakthrough, which put the Indian side on back foot immediately. He removed Indian opening batsman Rishabh Pant in the 9th over. Pant has been the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament so far with 280 runs from five innings. Fernando went a little outside off, Pant while trying to defend it, was caught behind by de Silva.

He later dismissed the likes of Mahipal Lomror, Sarfaraz Khan and Arman Jaffer. Just when Anmolpreet and Khan were looking dangerous, Fernando made a breakthrough by dismissing Khan.

Lahiru Kumara made use of the miserable situation of Ishan Kishan, who has been clearly struggling with his form lately. He has just one half-cnetury in the World Cup so far. Kuamara tempted Ishan Kishan with a loose ball, the batsman just got a touch which carried straight into the gloves of de Silva. It was the wicketkeeper’s first catch out of a total of five he finished in the first innings. Later the de Silva was also involved in a run out which saw tail-ender Rahul Botham walking back to the pavilion on the first ball of the last over.

Brief scores:

India Under-19 267 for 9 (Anmolpreet SIngh 72, Sarfaraz Khan 59; Asitha Fernando 4 for 43) vs Sri Lanka Under-19
