Anton Devcich is a part of a Northern Knights side that is eyeing success at the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014. While Northern Knights have gone on to win three out of their three games in the qualifiers, Devcich has also caught the attention not for cricketing reasons but for his bushy bear. He says that it was due to a deal with friends, wherein they agreed to grow their beards for a year.

Speaking to CLT20’s official website, Devcich said, “I was hanging out with one of my good mates back home who was getting married. After a couple of beers, we decided it was a good idea to grow our beards for a year. It’s been six months since I have been growing my beard and have six more months to go. There are a few other hairy guys back home as well. Let’s see how it goes and how long I can keep it on.”

In recent times, Kane Richardson of Australia was another cricketer who had made a name with his bushy beard during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. “I remember watching his beard long time back but I haven’t seen a recent picture of him. I was told his beard was pretty impressive. So it would be interesting to see who gets the measure at the end of it, Devcich said.

Devcich also said that Northern Districts now face a challenge ahead of them as they face the bigger sides in the main draw. They will have to play their best cricket to get the results. Devcich said, “Now begins a new challenge for us. We walked into this tournament wanting to qualify first and then take it from there. Now that we have done that, we will sit down and reassess how we are going to go about in the rest of the tournament. We would not be here if we didn’t think we could win it and I think we can win it with the team that we have got.”
