Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin, has been named in the India Under-19s squad for the two four-day matches for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in July. However, he did not find a place in the limited-overs side that will play five 50-over matches on the same tour. Arjun, now 18, attended a camp in Zonal Cricket Academy (ZCA). He played matches in Una. Arjun’s coach Subroto Banerjee had praised the youngster in an earlier interview with Sportstar: “He is a hard-working cricketer and is always willing to learn. The best thing about him is that you tell him anything and he will follow it.”

Arjun played for Mumbai Under-19s in the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy. His finest performance came against Madhya Pradesh Under-19s, where he scored 31 and claimed 1 for 42 and 5 for 95.

The four-day squad will be led by Anuj Rawat of Delhi, who also played the Under-19 Asia Cup in 2017. The 50-over squad will be led by Uttar Pradesh’s Aryan Juyal. India Under-19 are the defending champions of the Under-19 World Cup, having lifted the trophy in New Zealand earlier this year. Several members from that squad (captain Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Mavi, Abhishek Sharma, Shubhman Gill, Manjot Kalra, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Anukul Roy) were snapped by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises shortly afterwards.
