Remember Arshad Khan? The Pakistan off-spinner, who made his debut against West Indies in 1997-98? Arshad Khan played 9 Tests and 58 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in between 1997 to 2006. On Monday, a social media user, Ganesh Birle, shared the information on Facebook that the former Pakistan cricketer was seen driving Uber Taxi in Sydney. In a sad story shared on Facebook by Birle, he wrote, “He was the driver of our cab and we started chatting, he told me that he is from Pakistan and lives in Sydney. Also that he has been to Hyderebad many times when he was playing for Lahore Badshahs something in ICL. After which I asked him his full name and then I was shocked to see his face which I could partially recognise. I shook has his hand and left. (sic)”

“He was avoiding the conversation all the time, but at the same time he couldn’t help but talk about his India connection. Imagine he introduced himself as ‘I from Pakistan [sic] but I have been here in Sydney for long time now’. Also like a good Uber driver he offered us water and stuff when we sat in the car.”

Arshad last ODI and Test matches came against India in Rawalpindi and Bangalore. He picked up 32 Test wickets and 56 in ODIs. He has 601 wickets in First-Class. Of his memorable wickets have been that of taking the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in the first ODI at Peshawar in 2006. Arshad’s best ODI performance came in 2005 India tour, when he registered 4 for 33 in the first ODI at Kochi. Arshad’s story is similar to that of Ewen Chatfield, who drives a taxi in Wellington.
