Former Sri Lankan cricketer, Asanka Gurusinha has been appointed as the Chief Cricket Operations Officer’ who will oversee all international cricket, the High Performance Unit and the Brain Center Operations, as well as Women’s Cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated the above in a press release.
The release also stated about the success of Nidahas Trophy 2018 that was held at Colombo last month. The tri-nation T20 tournament that involved Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh was a big commercial success.
The release stated, “The tournament in total generated a net income of Rs. 940 million for the SLC, with the total revenue achieved standing at Rs. 1.38 billion. Out of the total revenue, Rs. 1.26 billion was derived by selling international media rights and sponsorship deals, while the rest being the revenues generated locally with a significant ticket sales revenue running up to Rs. 80 million.”
Sri Lanka could not qualify for the final. India, who sent a second string side led by Rohit Sharma, played Bangladesh in the tournament final. In what was a thriller of a contest, India sneaked a win courtesy Dinesh Karthik’s last-ball six.
