The fifth Ashes 2013-14 Test between Australia and England began on January 3, 2014, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

 

England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to field first. Australia were bowled out for 326 in their first innings. Steven Smith top-scored with 115 and Brad Haddin scored 75. Ben Stokes took six wickets for 99 runs.

 

At stumps on Day One, England were at eight for one. Cook was batting on seven and nightwatchman James Anderson was on one. Michael Carberry was the only wicket to fall on Day One. Mitchell Johnson took the wicket.
