Former Australia Test player Greg Blewett has been named as the fielding coach for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Previuosly American baseball coach Mike Young worked with the Australian team sporadically on their fielding since 2000. Blewett, 42, will be joining the coaching ranks alongside Darren Lehmann, reported Cricket Australia Official Website.
Lehmann said in an interview that, “Greg was a brilliant fielder in his playing days and he will bring some fresh advice and ideas as well as a new voice for the players to hear from which is important for everyone’s development.” He further added, “It will be great to have him on board in Zimbabwe and the UAE.”
Mike Young, a former baseball player and coach, got involved with cricket in 1999 after he was invited by the then QUeensland Bulls coach John Buchanan. Later on, when Buchanan was appointed as the coach of the Australian cricket team Young started assisting him and Australia’s fielding standards went up until 2005, as Young’s contract was not renewed. Blewett was working with the Australian A squad while they were playing India A at Brisbane.
