After defeating the world No 1, South Africa in their own backyard in the hard-fought three-Test series (2-1), the resurgent Australians have now toppled India to claim the second spot in the ICC Test rankings.
They sit pretty at second spot with 115 points, behind South Africa at 127, while India who have now slipped to No 3 have 112 points.
After their thundering clean sweep of the Ashes at home, Australia will be extremely proud of this performance away from home, and against the world’s best team.
After Australia won the first Test, thanks to Mitchell Johnson‘s 12 wickets, South Africa came back hard in the series by winning the second Test in Durban (thanks to fiery second innings spell by Dale Steyn). But Australia’s surge was too powerful for the home team to contain, as they romped through the third Test to win the series.
