Australia had to bat in the final session after New Zealand were bowled out and unfortunately for them it was under lights at proper night time, the period which according to some produces most amount of support for the bowlers. Australia lost both their openers in heading to stumps with Trent Boult dismissing David Warner while Joe Burns fell to Doug Bracewell. Australia reached 54 for 2 at stumps still trailing by 148 runs, but with Steven Smith looking well set at the crease. New Zealand will be hoping to strike with great frequency on Day Two in order to restore balance.
