India‘s former spinner Sunil Joshi has been appointed Bangladesh‘s spin consultant ahead of their two-Test series against Australia. Bangladesh have shown considerable improvement in Tests recently, and will be banking on their strength, and Australia’s weakness, i.e. spin earn their maiden Test victory over the mighty opponents. The first Test will be played at Dhaka from August 27, followed by the second and final match at Chittagong (September 4).
Joshi confirmed the news and told Cricbuzz, “Yes, I will be working as the spin consultant for the Australia series, and will be joining the (Bangladesh) side shortly.” Interestingly, Joshi, who represented India in 15 Tests and 69 ODIs, was adjudged Man-of-the-Match in Bangladesh’s first-ever Test in 2000. He amassed 92 runs in his only innings and claimed 8 wickets, including a five-for. According to reports, Bangladesh were eager to appoint Stuart MacGill but the deal could not be finalised.
It must be noted that Australia have also retained S Sriram for their subcontinental tour after his presence led to visitors’ good show against India during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February-March.
