It was Bangladesh‘s day out at Dublin as they thrashed Ireland by 8 wickets in the fourth ODI of the Tri-Nation series on Friday. Both teams entered the encounter in a bid to earn their first victory of the tournament, but Ireland’s rusty batting and no show with the ball ensured a one-way traffic in favour of visitors. Mustafizur Rahman’s 4 for 23, Sunzamul Islam’s 2 for 22 and Mashrafe Mortaza’s 2 for 18 wrapped up the Irish innings for 181 in 46.3 overs. Then Soumya Sarkar’s second consecutive fifty made light work of the chase. The next tie will be between hosts and table-toppers New Zealand on Sunday. Ireland, with no victory, will be eager to turn the tides against an in-form Kiwis. Full Cricket Scorecard: Bangladesh vs Ireland, Match 4, Ireland Tri-Series

Tamim Iqbal and Sarkar started the chase by adding 95 for the first wicket. Neither left-hander found any difficulty at the middle and played the ball to its merit. Sarkar took a liking for Barry McCarthy, hammering him for 16 runs in the 9th over. He got boundaries off Peter Chase and Tim Murtagh as well. On the other hand, Tamim anchored the innings and ensured Ireland stayed on back-foot. He kept picking up the odd boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking. Nonetheless, Kevin O’Brien sent Tamim back for 47 to give something to cheer about for the home crowd.

Sabbir Rahman, after a string of poor scores, added some runs under his belt and stitched a 76-run stand with Sarkar. He fell for 35, but Sarkar completed formalities with an unbeaten 87. His innings comprised of 11 fours and 2 sixes. Sarkar was impressive as he not only helped his side emerge victorious, but also guided the innings single-handedly.

Earlier, Ireland were asked to bat by Mashrafe Mortaza. The hosts never got going, falling to poor shot selections to some disciplined bowling efforts from the opposition. Mustafizur Rahman got regular breakthroughs whereas Sunzamul kept testing the Irish batsmen. Only Ed Joyce (46) and Niall O’Brien (30) posed some challenge.

Brief Scores:

Ireland 181 all-out in 46.3 overs (Ed Joyce 46, Niall O’Brien 30, George Dockrell 25; Mustafizur Rahman 4 for 23, Sunzamul Islam 2 for 22) lost to Bangladesh 182 for 2 in 27.1 overs (Tamim Iqbal 47, Soumya Sarkar 87*; Kevin O’Brien 1 for 22) by 8 wickets.
