Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, ACC Women’s Asia Cup T20, Match 13: Sri Lanka register easy 7-wicket win

Sri Lanka Women exhibited a brilliant bowling display, as they restricted Bangladesh Women at 93 for 3, in match No. 14 of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Women’s Asia Cup T20 2016, at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok. Bangladesh Women started off well by keeping wickets intact early in their innings, but later failed to pace up the run-rate. In reply, Sri Lanka Women chased down the total with ease, keeping their hopes alive by bagging their third victory of the series.

Winning the toss, Sri Lanka Women elected to bowl first. Bangladesh openers Sanjida Islam and Sharmin Sultana provided the team with a solid start. They played a composed innings, putting a price on their wickets. However, it affected the scoring rate as the match progressed, completing their innings for a paltry total. Opener Sanjida was the highest run-getter of the innings with 35  off 49 (not very T20-like). Shaila Sharmin contributed with 25 runs to take the score to 93 for 3 in 20 overs. Chamari Atapattu was the most successful of the Sri Lanka Women bowlers with 2 wickets.

Chasing the target, Sri lanka Women were in no hurry. Yasoda Mendis and Nipuni Hansika started things off steadily, as the target was not that tough a task. However, Chamari joined Yasoda at the crease, as Nipuni was dismissed for 10. The duo built up the most crucial partnership of the innings. Yasoda got run out for 24, while Chamari scored 39. Nonetheless, it was the pair of Dilani Manodara and Hasini Perera who took the side to victory with an over remaining. Among the Bangladesh bowlers, only skipper Rumana Ahmed was successful with 2 wickets.
