In 309 T20I Chris Gayle has blasted 10,571 runs with a strike rate of 147.7. In 297 T20Is Brendon McCullum has bludgeoned 8,245 runs with a strike rate of 139.6. These numbers are spectacular in a format that started just a decade ago.

Fans, however, were lucky to see these talismanic players open for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League. They together reduced the bowlers to nothingness, and will once again wreck havoc in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017, playing for Rangpur Riders. Speaking to cricbuzz, Gayle revealed how excited he is to play with McCullum.

‘Pressure is on us’

“We know how destructive BM is. It is a privilege to open the batting with him again. We opened together way back in the IPL. Now we are joining forces together again. It is new for both of us to come in and go for a blast but we have experience. The expectation is high on us to deliver. We want to try our best and win the game tomorrow.”

Captained by Mashrafe Mortaza, the Riders also feature players such as Ravi Bopara.

‘There are match-winners in the team’

“There’s a lot of experience within the team led by [Mashrafe] Mortaza. The bowling attack has a lot of experience as well.

“We have Mr. [Ravi] Bopara as well. It is not a situation where we can look to depend on one particular person. There are a lot of match winners in the team. It is not like we are going to depend on Gayle and McCullum to get the job done.”
